Job Description

  • Linux/vSphere/Cloud Engineer must be a self-starter and be able to work under aggressive deadlines. The candidate possesses familiarity with varied concepts, standard best business practices, and procedures. The ideal candidate can plan and execute tasks based on experience, judgment and independent research. The engineer will be expected to work on complex assignments and perform a wide range of VMware system administration activities no direct supervision. The engineer will be expected to have specific knowledge of VMware systems administration concepts, practices and procedures and is required to be available for on-call mission support. Additionally, the engineer will be responsible for working with highly functional development teams to help developing and automating service deployments, optimizing deployments and performance, integration with enterprise authentication services, and establishing/improving system monitoring while maintaining established security protocols within development, test, and production systems. Other responsibilities will include working with the team to define task breakdowns and effort estimates; as well as preparing design and test documents.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Architect, build and maintain on premise and/or cloud infrastructure to support internal teams and customer initiatives

    2. Maintain and improve existing infrastructure (build out autoscaling, support new services, optimize for cost efficiencies/authentication/search, etc)

    3. Administer production, staging and development environments

    4. Manage and aggregate server logs and monitor for security and system related incidents

    5. Apply configuration management disciplines to maintain software revisions, security patches, hardening, and documentation

    6. Enforce best practices for security and reliability, and drive security initiatives, like access control and vulnerability testing

    7. Provide root-cause analysis for recurring or critical problems

    8. Perform routine equipment checks and preventative maintenance

    9. Work with IT teams to maintain security requirements for operation of systems

    10. Maintain up to date documentation of designs/configurations

    11. Work with other service providers to support areas of common interest

    12. On-call support may be required

    Qualifications:

    1. 7-10 years of professional experience in Information Technology, VMware\\ESXi, Virtual Machine, Cloud technologies

    2. Experience working within Linux distributions such as RedHat, Ubuntu, CentOS

    3. Strong Understanding of DevOps and software/application development processes

    4. BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience

    5. Prior experience with scripting and automation using (Python, Shell, Perl)

    6. Experience in designing secure Cloud & Virtualized Environments in multi-tenant environments

    7. Experience in championing change and effectively managing project/program implementation

    8. Advanced knowledge of technical project management, project implementation, infrastructure engineering

    9. Advanced skill in communications and managing teams in a matrix environment

    10. As an individual contributor, responsible for designing, sizing & scaling infrastructure solutions for Application projects

    11. Strong infrastructure engineering skills in one or more areas of Servers, Storage, OS, Middleware, or Networking

    12. Experience with at the following technologies: HP Blades, Linux, Windows, vRealize Orchestrator, vRealize Operations, vCenter, vSphere
