Job Description

Engility is seeking a DevOps Engineer with experience in developing, designing, engineering and deploying private and hybrid cloud environments. The candidate will have strong verbal and written communication skills while working in a collaborative team environment consisting of systems, networking and InfoSec engineers. The candidate will have excellent troubleshooting skills in all aspects of networking and systems, especially with Linux operating system-related issues. The candidate will have a strong desire and aptitude for solving problems and performing deep technical dives to resolve issues quickly and efficiently.

Types of tasks to be performed:

  • Design end-to-end system deployments with stakeholders
  • Writing documentation as needed
  • Verifying design criteria is compliant with overall design goals
  • Conducting testing to validate designs
  • Provision and configure resources as required and manage those items
  • Engineer Linux environment items such as Puppet deployments, management of container environments, automation, application deployments, data flow development and troubleshooting and system hardening
  • Support infrastructure recap efforts and conduct virtual environment management
  • O&M for network appliances, operating systems, infrastructure and customer support

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must have a current/active TS/SCI with Polygraph
  • Requires 10 years of relevant experience
  • Advanced scripting and/or programming skills with at least one of the following: Bash, Python, Perl, Java, Ruby
  • Expertise in the deployment, provisioning, operations and maintenance of Linux environments running Centos and Ubuntu
  • Experience with the configuration, deployment and maintenance of configuration management tools such as Puppet or Chef
  • Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMWare or Xen and virtualization technologies such as Libvirt, KVM, QEMU, Namespaces and Containers
  • Experience with application containerization technologies such as LXD and/or Docker
  • Experience with commercial cloud provider service offerings such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and Azure
  • Strong desire and aptitude for problem solving and conducting deep technical dives to resolve issues quickly

Required Qualifications:

  • Good understanding of VMWare SDDC reference architecture
  • Experience with network engineering concepts (SDN, TCP/IP, packet/frame architecture, IPv4/IPv6, tunneling protocols, VXLAN) and routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, MPLS)
  • Understanding of IPSEC and SSL VPN technologies and virtual network environments using STT, GRE or other tunneling mechanisms
  • Support mixed environments with Linux and Windows using Active Directory, LDAP, KERBEROS and other utilities and/or services such as remote desktop, SSH and command line interface
  • Perform system hardening of Linux systems according to information security engineering principles and industry best practices
  • Understanding of storage solutions using object storage, block storage and file systems such as ZFS, CEPH or NFS
  • Perform log event correlation using tools such as HP ArcSight, Splunk or ELK
  • Experience with commercial network monitoring and system management applications (SNMP, Nagios, SolarWinds, etc)
  • Configure, operate and support Cisco network appliances such as Nexus 7000 switches and ASA firewalls
  • Use Visio and PowerPoint to develop technical engineering diagrams and/or presentations
