Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Power Electronics Group is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer for the development and ongoing support of new and existing electrical designs used in surface ship and submarine propulsion and power generation systems for the US Navy. The prospective candidate researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, and systems. Additionally the candidate designs electrical equipment, components, products, and systems for Department of Defense, commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.







The Power Electronics Group consists of incredible people with backgrounds in Mechanical, Electrical, and Systems Engineers with focus on Control Systems and Electromagnetic Design. The Power Electronics Group is one facet of the Hardware Engineering community here at Northrop Grumman Sunnyvale which also includes Mechanical Design, Thermal and Structural Analysis, and Materials Analysis to name a few. Our engineers find professional fulfillment in leading teams, performing cutting-edge research, and being in the forefront of the design process through our partnership with the program office business leadership.







The Power Electronics group is seeking a Mechatronics/Dynamics and Controls Design Engineer with knowledge of and experience with applications, modeling, and analysis of control systems. The candidate should also be familiar with hardware and software implementations of control systems and their associated challenges in relation to large rotating electrical machines. In that vein experience in facets of rotor/structural dynamics, analysis thereof, and correlation to control theory is highly desired.







This position located in Sunnyvale, CA.







This requisition may be filled at either as an Electrical Engineer or a Principal Electrical Engineer.

Basic Qualifications for an Electrical Engineer:


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 2 years related experience; Master's in a STEM discipline with no related experience
  • Demonstrated abilities and experience in Mechatronics, Dynamics, and/or Control Systems
  • Control System Modeling and Simulation ability and experience
  • Demonstrated capability to perform assignments on time and within budget
  • Must be a Those authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship are encouraged to apply. with the ability to obtain a DOD secret security clearance




Basic Qualifications for a Principal Electrical Engineer:


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 5 years related experience; Master's in a STEM discipline with 3 years related experience; PhD in a STEM discipline with no related experience
  • Demonstrated abilities and experience in Mechatronics, Dynamics, and/or Control Systems
  • Control System Modeling and Simulation ability and experience
  • Demonstrated capability to perform assignments on time and within budget
  • Must be a Those authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship are encouraged to apply. with the ability to obtain a DOD secret security clearance




Preferred Qualifications:


  • Structural and Rotating element analysis ability and experience
  • 2+ years of work experiences with DOD related products
  • MATLAB/Simulink proficiency
  • C/C++/C# proficiency
  • Understanding of FPGA concepts and programming
  • Experience working with Large Scale Rotating Electric Machinery
  • Current DOD secret security clearance
