Position: Systems Engineer (Electrical Systems)
Duration: Full Time Permanent
Location: 50% time in Fairlawan NJ 07410 and 50% in Long Island City NY 11101
GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
The Systems Engineer provides expertise and knowledge in electrical systems. He/she will estimate, design, track, startup and commission systems requiring greater planning and technical expertise.
They will analyze plans, specification, and contracts to determine system requirements, analyze plans, specifications, and contracts to determine system requirements and selects products, sizes, types, and location placement to ensure products meet specification requirements.
He/she will design a variety of electrical systems including controls systems, rail control systems, tunnel ventilation control systems, communications systems, SCADA, and others which shall consist of mechanical system layouts, electrical drawings, bill of materials, and sequence of operations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Designs electrical systems and associated network architecture to support, DDC field panels, MPR relays, VFD s, PLC's and other various third-party integration devices connected through Profinet, Profibus,Ethernet and Siemens S7 protocols.
Creates automation system database and job related programming for computer-based control systems.
Troubleshoots possible issues including identifying and debugging software, electrical or pneumatic and installation problems
Prepares engineering drawings, and systems submittals.
Prepares and oversees the integration, installation, and testing of all responsible systems.
Provides on-site assistance with or performs the programming, start-up, checkout, commissioning and validation processes.
Participates in job site final walk-through on assigned jobs, completes all job closeout documentation and provides customer training.
Acts as a technical resource to existing customers and field employees as needed.
Coordinate and manage work with subcontractors.
May be responsible for training lower level engineers and specialists
Must be able to perform all tasks with minimal supervision or coaching
REQUIRED TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:
PLC and VFD experience is important, PLC 300, 400, 400H
Power SCADA System or Tunnel Ventilation experience (either one is ok)
Must be comfortable with Test Equipment. Able to write Test Procedures
OSHA 30 is a plus
Must be comfortable working at the Tunnel site construction site, may not be air conditioned
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate effectively with team members
Strong written communications skills required
Strong organizational skills. Must have the ability to prioritize workload effectively
Familiarity with fiber optic networks
Ability to interpret complex documents
Able to create CAD drawings or lead CAD technicians in changing/evolving designs
Prepare, update, store, understand contract and system design drawings and successfully apply to
CAD Operators/Engineering Technicians
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
BS (minimum) degree in Electrical, Computer or Electronics Engineering
Typically 1-5 years relevant experience
Thorough knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, Visio, etc.
Thorough knowledge and experience electrical systems.
Experience in rail transportation projects is preferred.
