Job Description


Northrop Grumman Sector is seeking a well-rounded Systems Engineer to become part of our Government network installation team supporting field locations throughout the United States. Individual will perform field site engineering duties for the installation and maintenance of telecommunications and IT equipment. This position is located in Fairfax, Virginia, and will require travel 25 to 30% time in the DC Metro area and out of state to customer field locations.

Roles and Responsibilities:


* Perform multiple aspects of communications equipment field support to include but not be limited to: conducting surveys for IT equipment and cable install, performing fiber and copper cable install; configuring network telecommunication equipment IOS such as Cisco router and switches; installing OS images on workstations and configuring for network access; configuring printers and installing on to network environments; and performing checklist tests of installed components.


* Conduct and document detailed site surveys to include: identification of communications room electrical, environmental controls (HVAC), design of LAN cable install and cable management to desktop work areas, and physical placement of IT equipment.


* Other duties include troubleshooting and repairing installed communications equipment. Also responsible for in-house system builds to include ensuring readiness of site equipment packages for field shipment, support for palletizing and verification of inventory control of material pack lists.


* Candidate must be able to interact effectively with customers, interpret customer requirements and needs, clearly document site survey findings and installation requirements using MS Office applications/MS Visio.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:


* US Citizenship and a current active DoD Top Secret clearance are required. In addition, individual must be able to pass a DHS background investigation to obtain/maintain favorable DHS EOD/SCI program access for continued employment.


* An Associate's Degree in a technical discipline is preferred and 2 years of systems administration/network engineering experience. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a Associate's Degree.


* 3 years of implementation and troubleshooting experience in the following technologies: configuration and installation of communications equipment and/or information technology(IT) equipment, planning and installation of LAN copper and fiber optic cable terminations.


* 3 years of communications/IT equipment installation and maintenance experience.


* Experience in performing computer and printer installation and configuration.


* Must be able to lift equipment weighing up to 40 lbs.


* Must have strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.


* Able to work efficiently with minimal supervision and provide periodic updates to managers.- Travel will be required.
