Firmware Principal Engineer - Austin, Texas
As the Platform Firmware Principal Engineer, you'll work with an experienced team of engineers to develop firmware for next generation notebook, workstation, and ruggedized products to drive industry leading IP / feature development. You'll apply skills and experience across the full cycle of software development (specifications, reviews, development and review, debug and validation) of embedded controller modules to enhance the thermal, power management, security, manageability, manufacturability and configure of our top end products.
Our Firmware development team is part of Dells largest revenue producing business, the Business Client class of products; from tablets and notebooks to high end desktops and ruggedized products, to the most complex, multi-CPU workstations used for scientific research and education.
Working on all aspects of software development life cycle(using specifications to assist in design documentation, code development, debugging, validation)
Working with system and software architects on feature definitions, requirements, and behavior specifications.
Work with both internal groups and external vendors/partners/ODMs, define interface/protocol specifications.
Design and implement firmware on embedded controller (MIPS/ARC/ARM core) processors in a single threaded/interrupt driven and also in real time OS environment.
Implement solutions using C programming/assembly and conduct design/code reviews.
Debug/trouble shoot issues with debugger/ITPS, scopes, and logic analyzers.
Communicate, coordinate, and lead activities across local/remote, internal/external sites.
BSEE, BSCE, BSCS or related degree plus 6+ years of current embedded software development experience
PC architecture and windows operating systems, embedded controller development with both single threaded/interrupt driven and real time OS.
C programming, Assembly experience, Compilers, assemblers, debuggers.
Ability to analyze electrical schematic diagrams, use ITPs, scopes, and logic analyzers
Familiar with latest technology (wireless charging, type C) and various HW bus interface (SMBUS, LPC, I2C, PS2, etc)
BIOS development a plus (prefer UEFI / DXE / PEI)
