Position Summary: This position leads the design, configuration and maintenance of wireless radio and microwave communications for Client. Designs, plans and oversees installation and maintenance of wireless radio frequency (RF) and/or wireless communications systems, including radio propagation modeling and prediction, microwave path analysis, interference analysis, frequency coordination, telecom site equipment layout, parameter definition, and ancillary equipment.. This position is also responsible wireless hardware and software relating to the wireless system operations, maintenance, system performance, and monitoring to assure the operational effectiveness and efficiency of telecommunications services for Client.
Duties and Responsibilities:
*Collaborates across divisions to identify and implement wireless telecom solutions and Identifies innovative approaches to accomplish departmental goals, while maintaining alignment and compliance with business goals, corporate IT standards, SLA.
-15% *Leads the RF design, configuration and deployment of LMR and SCADA Radio System, and Microwave Infrastructure effectively, promoting and supporting team work.
-15% *Helps identify, troubleshoot, and resolve component and system problems during construction prior to final acceptance.
-15% *Provides subject matter expertise and highest point of technical problem escalation within the department for RF and Microwave related issues. Creates troubleshooting procedures, designing resolution procedures, and baseline testing. Ensures timely resolution of problems.
-25% *Monitors systems' performance for effectiveness, performance, traffic, growth requirements, security, and compliance with company policy and other regulatory agencies.
-10% *Develops plans for maintaining telecommunication systems, applications, security and network configurations.
-10% *Coaches Telecom and IT technical staff that have less experience and expertise in telecommunications applications and hardware.
-10% Skills, knowledge and abilities: *Understands and considers standard concepts, best practices and procedures related to wireless telecom network design, operations, installation and maintenance for local, offsite and/or remote locations and knowledgeable of technology applications used in the Electric Utility Industry including but not limited to:
o Wireless and/or wireline data and voice communications
- Telecordia, IEEE, RF communications technologies
- Land LMR, DMR, Microwave, & SCADA, Organization of Licensed & Unlicensed Spectrum by FCC, Telecom tower structures
- FAA, TIA/EIA, AC & DC Power Systems, NEC, R56 grounding, Telecom core, backhaul and access network architectures (OSI model), SONET, CWDM, DWDM fiber technologies, IP Networking solutions (routing, switching, IP Security & MPLS), Low speed analog & TDM circuits, FERC, NERC and NERC-CIP compliance rules and regulations pertaining to IT and telecom systems at Utility industry, Outside plant construction practices for wireless and wireline telecommunication technologies.
*Understands and considers business goals, corporate IT standards, department strategy, service level agreements, PFJ's (Project Funding Justifications) and budgetary implications. Uses skills to manage and complete projects on time and on budget
*Monitors emerging trends and evolving technologies, evaluating and understanding the implications for inclusion in departmental strategy. Takes the initiative to search for and identify alternative and/or innovative solutions to technical problems. *Quickly adapts to the demands inherent in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
*Expert level experience with RF Engineering tools like Pathloss 5, TAPS by Softwright, ArcGIS, Google Earth Pro and/or equivalent tools.
*Communicates effectively with all levels of employees, both technical and non-technical.
*Strong written and oral communication skills and working knowledge of Microsoft office tools including Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint.
*Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or 12 years related work experience.
*6+ years RF engineering experience working with radio communications systems, including radio propagation modeling and prediction, microwave path analysis, interference analysis, frequency coordination, cell site equipment layout and parameter definition
*Six years’ experience with RF Engineering tools like Pathloss 5, TAPS by Softwright, ArcGIS, Google Earth Pro and/or equivalent tools.
*Must have valid driver's license; three consecutive years of active driving history
LOCAL Candidate preferred. If not local, they will need to relocate to Kansas City by the start date of their assignment. Position will start remote but client will be returning to office on or around November 1 (client is continuing to monitor return to work date)
This is Monday through Friday position from 7:30a -4:30p (some flexibility). Requires some field work, candidate will need to have valid drivers’ license. Will drive client vehicle as needed.
Nokia Microwave equipment experience IP network experience. Prior electric utility experience a plus. LTE experience only is not sufficient for this role. Candidate must possess skills listed in skill matrix. This is a temp to hire role. Candidate must be able to convert if made an offer. Experience with FCC License processes is very desirable. Experience with tower site construction and tower/land leases is a real plus.
