They service both small businesses and the middle market in all 50 states, partnering with their clients to improve loss ratios, account retention and overall underwriting results.  The client’s requirements dictate the level of service chosen, the skill set of the consultant needed to complete the work, and the corresponding price point. The result is a detailed deliverable with meaningful, actionable facts for loss prevention and improved underwriting results. It also offers practical strategies, implementation expertise and customization capabilities.


The client is dedicated to ease of business. In addition to terrific customer service, clients can order and track work though its web platform, and also access various management reports. It has also developed an exclusive, innovative software application to maximize efficiency and productivity for our management and field consultants.


Position Overview:

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of 5 years risk control or commercial underwriting background, combined with solid sales experience. The AVP, Business Development position will be responsible for cultivating its presence in the market and driving sales with Commercial Insurance clients and prospective clients. 


It is expected that the candidate will bring solid risk control credibility and experience, combined with a natural sales acumen. The candidate will use their industry experience to develop an understanding of customers’ business needs, matching them with client’s capabilities, and developing winning proposals for them. 


You will play the key role in “hunting”, signing and developing chief client relationships. These contracts require a savvy individual accustomed to working with AVP and Director level leaders within Commercial Insurance markets.


In addition to the above, the candidate will be responsible for the following:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for the sales cycle from deal origination to closure (signed contract) and successful handover to the Account Manager
  • Expected to close 5-6 large deals annually
  • Balance multiple, concurrent deals to achieve challenging growth targets
  • Work effectively across the organization and partner with the appropriate team members to demonstrate the depth and breadth of client’s solutions
  • Work closely with Operations and Account Management leads to work on chief account strategies, and pursue to deliver high value and high growth opportunities
  • Bring an understanding of the marketplace and competitor offerings to drive its growth strategy and investments
  • Be responsible for new account sales and account acquisition
  • Be responsible for significantly growing presence and revenues in the Commercial and Personal lines market 



Professional background:

  • The successful candidate will possess a minimum of 5 years risk control or commercial underwriting background, combined with solid sales experience. 
  • The candidate will have been a significant contributor to new account acquisitions, ideally in a broker setting. 
  • He/she is astute at identifying and qualifying leads, able to develop strong credibility at potential client organizations, and have the proven ability to convert these relationships into commercial engagements. 
  • Candidate has effectively and proactively managed client expectations, built deep client partnerships, and developed excellent communication to connect at all levels within the client’s organization.  
  • Incumbent possesses strong sales process and operations skills (closing deals, pipeline management, forecasting, budgeting, etc.)
