Job Description

PotomacWave is seeking a Healthcare Simulation Specialist to provide mission essential healthcare simulation for a Federal client in San Diego, California. This position supports investigators, educators, and data collectors engaged in operationally-focused medical and surgical simulation training, education, and research.

Knowledge Areas

  • Knowledge of and skills in applying customer service and customer support principles and methods to advise, guide and consult throughout the organization on matters pertaining to technical information for the Simulation Center and its equipment
  • Vast knowledge of adult, pediatric, and neonatal simulators, hardware, and software to include systems administration methods and procedures, IT security principles, troubleshooting methods, and equipment
  • Knowledge of training methodologies, educational strategies, and data retrieval
  • Skills in planning and delivery processes for training techniques
  • Knowledge of and skills in project management principles and methods
  • Skills in making presentation to large groups in the capacity as a Simulation Center Technical Advisor
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • Basic A+ computer troubleshooting knowledge
    • Computer troubleshooting, repair, upgrade, and building experience
    • Audio Visual troubleshooting skills to include recognizing signal loss, distortion and different aspects of frequency and equipment used
    • Course work on VB.Net, ASP.Net, JAVA, JAVA Script, JSP, PHP, PERL, Python, HTML, UML, Systems Design and Analysis, Software Testing
  • Experience/exposure to medical operational training requirements
  • Good working knowledge of 3D virtual simulators
  • Civilian or military formal medical training (i.e., US Navy Corpsman, Civilian Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Nurse, etc.)


  • Support medical simulation research, training, and education by maintaining, operating, and upgrading part-task trainers, mannequin-based simulators, and surgical simulators, in addition to the necessary supporting supplies and equipment.
  • Contribute to the design, upgrade, development, testing, and implementation of training materials and scenarios.
  • Set up simulation supplies/equipment to meet training objectives.
  • Operate simulation equipment, task trainers, computerized simulators, and virtual reality procedural trainers.
  • Follow medical aspects of scenarios and make appropriate adjustments/upgrades based on participant actions.
  • Utilize Medical Modeling & Simulation with approved training scenarios when available and applicable, and provide feedback on improvements/upgrades through the unit’s simulation coordinator to the Program Management Office.
  • Operate and maintain simulation-related audio-video recording systems.
  • Coordinate and provide student logistical and administrative support needs to ensure students are given Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow procedures to prevent injury.
  • Provide students with sign-in and critique/evaluations/feedback forms and ensure those forms are subsequently collected.
  • Facilitate simulation training and provide feedback to the Course Director and/or Medical Facility staff.
  • Create troubleshooting documents, simulator checklists, and lesson plans for simulation equipment.
  • Provide oversight of all simulation encounters to include after action reports (AAR) of simulation training.
  • Assist the Government in providing initial orientation of simulation equipment to newly assigned personnel.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and build training scenarios using simulation software and equipment.


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as impeccable organizational skills, as evidenced by a minimum of one year of experience in this or a comparable field.
  • Minimum three years of experience as a systems administrative specialist or any computer related specialty and have prior working knowledge of the following Microsoft Office based programs (I.E. Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook).
  • One  to two years of experience as any technical course instructor/teacher
  • Be experienced with a Macintosh laptop or desktop computer in addition to Windows based computers.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining databases for data entry and future data analysis, specifically utilizing Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
  • Be well experienced with office equipment, such as facsimile, scanners, copiers, etc.
  • Provide a statement from each employee’s physician or a report of a physical examination that the employee is free from health impairments that would restrict or prohibit the employee from working on-site at the Government facility.
  • May be required to work after normal working hour (i.e., swing and graveyard) shifts when engaged in simulation-based training courses. Shifts will be limited to eight hours per day and the total weekly work hours will not exceed the expected forty hours per week. Normal working hours are defined as 0700 to 1530 hours on Monday through Friday, excluding Federal holidays.
  • All positions may have periods of prolonged standing and crawling. Ability to lift/move up to 150 pounds. Training mannequins typically weigh between 100-150 pounds.
  • Candidate must be a US citizen
  • Public Trust clearance is required
