The Infrastructure Systems Engineer focuses on the system infrastructure as a whole and makes decisions based on the entire system and how changes will affect the entire City. The Infrastructure Systems Engineer may lead Analysts and other professional or technical positions and will participate in budgeting and strategic planning.

The following are some of the position responsibilities; please review the classification description for more detail.

Essential Functions:

  • Design the installation, configuration and maintenance of a connected and reliable server infrastructure including virtualization and cloud services.
  • Coordinate and direct the resolution of escalated project issues, conflicts, changes and disputes.
  • Design and provide technical guidance when implementing systems; coordinate system projects including supervising, scheduling and monitoring updates, changes and problems.
  • Determine priorities, organizational needs and work plans when deploying and/or modifying system projects for complex, multi-tiered systems including cloud and virtual storage.
  • Prepare and oversee the design, creation, execution and documentation of test and disaster recovery plans.
  • Make recommendations and decisions that will be relied upon to purchase software/hardware that will meet the growing needs of the City.
  • Lead the installation, configuration and maintenance of systems equipment, components and data storage.
  • Ensure systems are compliant with applicable policies, codes, regulations and laws.

UPON CLOSER LOOK

Knowledge of and Skill in:

  • Hyper converged services, ideally Nutanix and Virtualization, ideally VMWare.
  • Windows Server Administration, including: Identity ADFS, Azure AD, MFA, RADIUS. Also: Core Windows Networking services: DNS, DHCP, WINS, DFS, NPS, IIS, PKI.
  • Office 365 administration.
  • Enterprise Backup, ideally Commvault.
  • Exchange Server Administration in an on-prem/cloud hybrid environment.
  • Mobile Device Management.
  • Azure Services, especially IaaS, Azure Site Recovery, Advanced Threat Detection.

Ability to:

  • Ability to manage complex projects from concept to completion including developing work plans, setting priorities, monitoring budgets, and managing contracts and/or vendors
  • Ability to identify risks and solutions when evaluating and monitoring installed infrastructure
  • Ability to make decisions based on the entire body of work and assimilate the big picture
  • Ability to coordinate with and effectively communicate with outside vendors to assist with service delivery
  • Ability to direct the work of others including technical experts as well as non- technical professionals within the City to resolve systems related issues
  • Ability to make decisions and resolve complex problems that involve understanding the priorities and organizational needs of the City
  • Ability to oversee technical systems implementation, design, programming and systems administration duties
  • Ability to lead, train and motivate others

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Systems Engineering or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum five years of experience with increasing responsibilities in a Microsoft server/services environment which includes one year of project administration and oversight responsibilities
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

Working Conditions:
Incumbents are expected to have the manual dexterity to manipulate keyboards and other computer hardware. Incumbents must listen, speak, read and interpret information from written sources and on the computer. The incumbent may spend a significant amount of time retrieving information from the computer, requiring repetitive motions of the hand and wrist. The incumbent may be required to push, pull, lift and carry 50 pounds. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Some travel is required among various city facilities as well as some outside travel. After hours work may be required.
