Joining the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) means being part of the team focused on securing the Nation's physical and cyber infrastructure against threats to public health and safety, economy, and national security.

This is an agency-wide position, which is comprised of several geographically separated divisions with a nationwide force: Infrastructure Security Division, Cybersecurity Division, Emergency Communications Division, National Risk Management Center and several organizational units. Typical work assignments include:
  • Implement security requirements such as those resulting from laws, regulations or Presidential directives
  • Assess new systems design methodologies to improve software quality
  • Conduct risk and vulnerability assessments of planned and installed information systems to identify vulnerability, risks and protection needs of activities.
  • Develop assessment test plans, assessment reports, and provides remediation or mitigation strategies.
  • Perform cyber defense incident triage, to include determining scope, urgency, and potential impact, identifying the specific vulnerability, and making recommendations that enable expeditious remediation.
  • Document and escalate incidents that may cause ongoing and immediate impact to the environment.

Qualifications
This is an open continuous announcement for 60 days, or until all positions are filled. It will be used to fill immediate and future vacancies for this agency. There may be multiple cut-off dates with the first being 10 days after the initial opening date of 02/01/2021. Additional cut-off dates may be established as needed until all vacancies have been filled.

You qualify for the GS-09 grade level (starting salary $53,433.00) if you possess information technology related experience demonstrating each of the four required competencies:
  • Attention to Detail-analyzing software to identify areas for improvements.
  • Customer Service-coordinating with personnel to provide automation support.
  • Oral Communication-explaining technical information orally to non-technical audiences.
  • Problem Solving- working with staff to solve office automation issues.
  • In addition to the above requirement you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level performing at least one of the following duties:
  • Communicating computer network concepts to individuals seeking technological support.
  • Providing support to ensure compliance of automated information system security protocols and procedures.
  • Expressing technical information to staff to assist with security problem issues.

    Have successfully completed 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Master's. or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited in: computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. (Include copies of transcripts with your application)

    You qualify for the GS-11 grade level (starting salary $64,649.00) if you possess information technology related experience demonstrating each of the four required competencies:
  • Attention to Detail- reviewing reports of installed information technologies to identify potential risks.
  • Customer Service-working with customers to determine system requirements and resources.
  • Oral Communication-explaining technical information orally to non-technical audiences.
  • Problem Solving- resolving security problems identified with system changes.
  • In addition to the above requirement you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level performing at least one of the following duties:
  • Assessing new system design methodologies to improve software quality
  • Conducting risk assessments of installed information systems to identify protection needs of activities
  • Ensuring integration of security programs with other IT program services.
  • --OR--

    Have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. (Include copies of transcripts with your application)

    National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
