Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Team lead and go to person, attend all middleware technical meetings; provide (create) and manage technical documents including diagrams; manage a team and assign work and tickets; be able to lead teams through daily operations, troubleshooting, training, and design efforts
  • Provide recommendation for performance improvements and innovation, provide input and recommendation to program manager and customer for their IT strategic plan that aligns with the customer’s mission. 
  • Build JBOSS AMI on premises and in cloud environments and JBOSS instance replication and synchronization. 
  • Perform day-to-day operational tasks and middleware management functions such as perform Middleware application server installation, configuration, clustering, and administration on Unix/Linux/Window platforms or cloud based environments such as Amazon AWS with a focus on JBOSS and Tomcat in primarily a Sybase and Oracle database environment.

Education/Experience: Masters degree or 10 years of relevant work experience OR Bachelor Degree plus 5 years of relevant experience.

  • Must have experience with leading a team of 3 or more members.
  • Must have java codind, programming, and troubleshooting experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with JVM configuration and monitoring as well as skills with the following: Java, JBOSS including soap 5.x, J2EE, Shell Scripts.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a large and complex application server infrastructure 200+ JBOSS (5.x and 6.x)
  • Demonstrated experience with troubleshooting and management of complex issues related to applications and middleware.
  • Demonstrated ability to configure clustering and load-balancing across VMs or within VMs optimizing memory and resource usage across the multiple JBOSS instances.
  • Demonstrated experience with SOA and JBPM architectures, including Enterprise Service Bus, Workflow components and the development of large scale SOA and JBPM implementations.
  • Demonstrated experience with J2EE application servers (Tomcat, JRUN, JBOSS) , Oracle, Perl, shell, HTTP, and Apache in UNIX/Linux.
  • Hands-on experience with JBOSS application server installation, configuration, clustering, and administration, preferably on Unix/Linux platforms or cloud based environments and the ability to install and securely implement JBOSS enterprise middle-ware components. Strong understanding of web application architectures.
  • Willingness and ability to take Unisys provided ITILv3 Foundation training and passing the certification test (required by customer) if certification is not already held.

 

Desired but not required:

  • Experience and understanding of Java technologies such as web services, SSL, webapps, ejb, jdbc, struts, hibernate, spring, JMS and SQL to provide support for application teams in troubleshooting issues.
  • Administer Coldfusion v11 and Tomcat v7.01 servers (that use J2EE) by installing servers, patching, and maintaining server configuration (ONLY).
  • Experience with providing middleware performance management services such as analysis and reporting; AND modernization services.
  • Proactively monitor middleware environment using off the shelf monitoring and other tools to ensure quick response to any issues, and consistent implementation of configuration changes.
  • Experience with working in an ITIL based environment primarily Service operations: incident, event, request, problem, and access management (example ServiceNow and its ticketing and CM services).
  • Understanding of configuration management processes to both maintain middleware product configurations as well as fitting into application team configuration life cycles.  Working with application teams to perform application deployments.
