Job Description




Primary Responsibilities: Translates requirements, technical specifications to application design and code for new or enhancement projects working closely with Solution Architechs and System AnalystsDevelops highly scalable applications by developing code and test artifacts that reuse subroutines or objects, is well structured, backed by automated tests, including sufficient comments and is easy to maintain. Designs, codes, tests, debug, and documents software, and enhance existing components to ensure that software meets business needsConduct design and code reviews to ensure code developed meets coding best practices guidelines, unit testing, security, and scalability and maintainability guidelinesPerform all phases of software engineering including requirements analysis, application design, code development and testingProducing high-quality code to meet all project deadlines and ensuring the functionality matches the requirementsAnalyzing and resolving issues found during the testing or pre-production phases of the software delivery lifecycle, coordinating changes with project team leaders and cross-work team membersProviding technical support to project team members and responding to inquiries regarding errors or questions about programsInteracts with architects, other tech leads, team members and project manager as required to address technical and schedule issues.Contribute to the design and architecture to enable secure, scalable, and maintainable software and should be able to clearly articulate the implications of design/architectural decisions, issues and plans to technology leadershipCollaborate on the design with other team members and product owners, both inside and outside the scrum teamSuggests and implements process improvements for estimating, development and testing processes.Review code and provide feedback relative to best practices and improving performanceMentor application team on new standards and technologiesWork closely with Scrum Master and Delivery Lead keeping them up to date on status.

Required Qualifications: BS Degree in Computer Science or related experience10+ years of experience in IT Application Development10+ years of strong hand-on experience with Java Enterprise Edition (Java/J2EE) and web technologies8+years working with Oracle, including writing SQL and PL/SQL6+ years of experience with Struts and/or Spring frameworksExcellent analytical and creative problem solving skillsStrong communication skillsHands on experience and good understanding of Java Server Pages (JSPs), Enterprise Java Beans (EJBs), service-oriented architectures (SOA), Spring, Struts, Jenkin, Maven and design patterns such as MVC, Command, Session Facade, DAO etc.Working experience in XML/JSON and developing SOAP and REST services using Apache CXF or a comparable frameworkExperience in designing and implementing complex business applicationsHands on experience with Continuous Integration and Deployment StrategiesExperience working with IntelliJ and GitWork experience in Unix enviromentsWorked on applications designing and implementing complex business functionalities Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated success in building design patterns and software engineering best practicesKnowledge of web security, application security, web services security, common vulnerability remediation, certificate management and useSolid background in applications development methodologies, SDLC, Agile Methodology: SCRUM and other IT industry standardsExperience in leading projects requiring application re-engineering, modernization / refactoring legacy code base to modernize technology, componentizing and segmenting code base for independent deploymentsExperience in test first development and pair programmingExperience translating business requirements into value-added, high-performing technical solutions in the health care sectorExcellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong interpretive skills, as well as the ability to effectively present, negotiate, influence, and build consensusExperience with commercial software development Careers at UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement.
