Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a  Junior System Administrator/Help Desk Specialist to join our growing team at our Headquarters in Alexandria, VA. This position require an active TOP SECRET CLEARANCE.

Roles and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain customer-required Information Assurance (IA) certifications such as Security+ as required
  • Schedule, perform, and maintain records of Operating System patching, application patching, system maintenance, antivirus updates, and software/hardware changes
  • Implement and maintain system backups as needed
  • Provide technical support to internal employees through emails, phone calls, and walkups.
  • Deploy and configure desktops/laptops, printers, software, desk phones
  • Troubleshoot end user and network hardware/software (Windows, phones, switches, etc.)
  • Install/upgrade operating systems and application software
  • Image systems with Microsoft Development Toolkit (MDT)
  • Diagnose Windows 10, Office 2010/2013/2016 and other application issues
  • Diagnose and fix problems with Laptops and Desktops, as company standard hardware.
  • Deploy, diagnose, and fix problems with iPhone and Android smartphones (via AirWatch MDM)
  • Malware and virus removal/repair
  • Manage encryption of laptops with Bitlocker and PGP
  • Track and maintain computer assets using asset management tools
  • Set up new hire computer equipment and VoIP Phones
  • Administer Active Directory Users and Groups on a Server 2016 domain
  • Troubleshoot Group Policy client issues on end user systems
  • Assist users with remote access through VPN
  • Provide remote support for users via various tools such as TeamViewer
  • Ensure all ticket communication & follow up in a timely manner based on established SLA
  • Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Windows Operating Systems
  • Basic knowledge of federal security requirements and mandates [e.g., RMF, Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)]
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently
  • Excellent time management, scheduling, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work well independently as well as follow detailed instructions for completing tasks
  • Must be a team player and be able to work within all levels of a project team


  • Strong Microsoft Windows background with some knowledge of UNIX/LINUX
  • Knowledge of various computer software applications, hardware platforms, networking components and LAN/WAN architecture
  • Experience with a major system deployment and management technology, such as Microsoft MDT/SCCM, Quest KACE, or other


  • Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance, Information Technology or related field


  • A+ and/or Network+ certifications
  • Microsoft certification such as MCP or MCSA


  • Must have a minimum of an active Top Secret security clearance.
