Clover Consulting has a large client in the Lansing, MI area in need of a LIMS Consultant for a 1++ year contract opportunity. 

 

*This position is 2 days on site, and 3 days remote per week. *

 

Job Description

This position serves as the Information Technology resource for the Laboratory Services Section with primary responsibility of administrating the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) applications and databases for the Environmental and Drinking Water programs in the Laboratory Services Section.

The LIMS is unique within the department and holds all sample and testing information the lab receives and produces. This position will perform ongoing hardware, application, database, server, and platform testing and updates that directly impact laboratory operations. This position will incorporate new testing from emerging contaminants into the LIMS and will create custom laboratory Crystal Reports for internal lab staff and customers, custom Electronic Data Deliverable reports, and custom SQL queries for querying data within the LIMS. This position serves as a resource for laboratory staff to help maintain and troubleshoot current analytical instrumentation software and associated data, working with staff and the LIMS vendor to interface data from analytical instrumentation to the LIMS, and developing automated and written procedures for maintaining electronic data generated in the laboratory.

 

General Summary of Duty 1

Manage the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and two distinct databases for housing environmental and drinking water laboratory sample testing information. Review, evaluate, and test new LIMS application features in development and QA environments, and roll out updates to production environments.

Individual tasks related to the duty.

  • Manage six LIMS databases – Environmental - Development, QA, Production, and Drinking Water - Development, QA and Production.
  • Coordinate/manage server space and archiving for LIMS applications and databases.
  • Monitor LIMS applications for new updates.
  • Review, evaluate, and validate updates in test environments.
  • Coordinate/implement LIMS application updates in production environments for the Laboratory Services Section.
  • Train laboratory staff on new and existing LIMS features.
  • Coordinate with department IT personnel on  hardware, network, operating system updates.
  • Maintain laboratory IT operations to ensure the laboratory’s ability to provide timely testing results.
  • Develop contingency plans for laboratory operations in the event of server, network, or application failure.
  • Work with staff to develop and implement new online tools that will allow customers to access laboratory services more efficiently.

 

General Summary of Duty 2

Develop custom Crystal Reports, Electronic Data Deliverable (EDD) reports, SQL and Access queries for

laboratory processes, staff, and customers integrated with the LIMS.

Individual tasks related to the duty.

  • Learn Crystal Reports application
  • Develop, test and implement a variety of custom reports for the LIMS application including reports for tracking and testing samples through the LIMS and customer analytical reports.
  • Develop, test and implement a variety of custom Electronic Data Deliverable (EDD) reports including customer analytical reports.
  • Develop, test and implement SQL queries within the LIMS application for automating data evaluation and qualification.
  • Develop Access queries for laboratory management staff to track workloads, laboratory metrics, etc.
  • Develop procedures in coordination with department staff for sending drinking water testing data/information to the Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS) through the EPA’s
  • Compliance Monitoring Data Portal (CMDP).
  • Develop procedures in coordination with department staff for sending laboratory testing data/information to the Environmental Quality Information System (EQuIS) database.
  • Coordinate with division and department staff for providing laboratory testing data/information to other databases such as MiWaters and WaterTrax.

 

General Summary of Duty 3

Serve as a resource for laboratory staff to develop, evaluate, maintain, enhance, or troubleshoot

analytical equipment software and other laboratory support applications/software. Coordinate with

division, department, and  staff to maintain state technology resources.

Individual tasks related to the duty.

  • Work with laboratory staff to maintain laboratory equipment software.
  • Develop, test and implement other laboratory applications to enhance quality and efficiency in the laboratory.
  • Serve as the liaison between the LIMS vendor and the laboratory for vendor developed enhancements.
  • Serve as the liaison between the laboratory and other department agencies and staff that may need access to laboratory data.
  • Maintain the laboratory sections inventory of state technology resources, including workstations and peripheral devices.
  • Coordinate with division, department, and staff to ensure state resources meet  security standards while maintaining continued laboratory operations.
  • Lead User Acceptance Testing on all IT projects that impact the LIMS system.
  • Plan in Keylight for the LIMS system.
  • Assist with remediation of potential risks documented in the security plan.

 

General Summary of Duty 4

  • Develop procedures for maintaining access to, control, and storage of electronic data in the laboratory.
  • Develop automated procedures to monitor and/or enhance operational efficiency and measure metrics for the section.
  • Manage the LIMS application and two databases the house environmental and drinking water laboratory sample testing information.
  • Coordinate with to review, evaluate and test new LIMS application features in development and QA environments, and roll-out updates to production environments.
  • Develop custom Crystal reports, electronic data deliverable reports, SQL and Access queries for laboratory processes, staff and customers integrated with the LIMS.
  • Serve as a resource for laboratory staff to develop, evaluate, maintain, enhance or troubleshoot analytical equipment software and other lab support applications software.
