GDIT's seeks a Lead Engineer.


  • BS or equivalent + 9 yrs related experience, or MS + 7 yrs related experience

Together as General Dynamics Information Technology, we deliver cost-effective, next-generation IT solutions and services to the Department of Defense, the intelligence community and federal civilian agencies as they modernize their information systems. GDIT is pursuing a business opportunity with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  HUD seeks to transform their business and information technology (IT) landscape through the modernization of its’ technology, processes, policies, and workforce.  Most notably, HUD is shifting its’ technology strategy from developing standalone capabilities within each mission area to meeting business requirements across HUD’s mission areas through Enterprise IT Services.  As a result, HUD is already improving IT support for programs that help keep responsible homeowners in their homes, reduce the number of homeless veterans on our streets, and attract private investments and speed economic growth by reducing the combined cost of housing in targeted regions.

The intent of the HUD Enterprise Architecture Transformation (HEAT)  initiative contract is to provide agency-wide end user technology solutions and help desk support capabilities to support HUD’s employees, contractors, centralized data centers, and information management systems. HUD’s Data Center consolidation has led to more efficient and effective operations, which positions the agency to adapt and become more flexible and responsive to a rapidly-changing business environment.  HUD intends to further drive operational efficiencies throughout the agency’s IT environment with the implementation of the End User functionality.

The Lead Engineer performs on an ongoing basis, industry research for technology solutions that may best benefit HUD providing reports and white papers on the assessment of any proposed new technology, attend technical forums and hold modernization/technology innovation sessions to include:

  • Modernization Interchange Meetings

  • Technology Refresh Compliance Report

  • Modernization Refresh Activities Report.

The Lead Engineer also supports both operational and growth activities.

The Lead Engineer provides Technical Strategy, Architecture, and design on emerging technologies that affect HUD’s Infrastructure evaluating and providing recommendations in the development of end user infrastructure focused on operational excellence.  The Lead Engineer supports the architecting of IT infrastructures for End User solutions, that can include Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-aService(PaaS), and/or Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). 

The Lead Engineer monitors the End User system performance such as availability, response times, problems, and other and service delivery indicators to identify opportunities for improvements and will work with the Service Delivery Teams, 3rd party vendors, and other HUD IT personnel to implement. The Lead Engineer works with the Service Delivery Leaders to develop and implement performance models for End User IT systems, including workstations.   The Lead Engineer advises Service Delivery Leaders on Problem Management and Root Cause Analysis and may be engaged to support Major Incident Outages.  

The Lead Engineer will part of the HEAT Program Management Office and report to the HEAT PM.  The Lead Engineer will work closely with the HEAT Transformation Director, Cloud SME, and Service Delivery Managers leading the development of the HEAT Technology Roadmap provide technology recommendations for the HEAT End-User Technology platform.  The Lead Engineer will lead solution development for add-on Task Orders that include insertion of new technology
