About the role:  

We are looking for an experienced Lead - Full Stack Software Engineer to mentor and grow team members, partner with other Leads and the Product team to manage and scale the infrastructure of whitepages.com free site experience and our mobile applications. This role is an opportunity for you to roll your sleeves up, produce and maintain a best in class experience for over 30M unique users who visit our site each month and to create a mobile experience on par with web that engages users. You will be rewarded daily by directly impacting the success of the business through your leadership and guidance and the growth of your teammates through your mentorship. This position can be located in Seattle, remote (with some travel) or a combination of office/WFH.    

As the Lead Software Engineer you will: 

  • Lead a team of software engineers in the technical aspects of the development and maintenance of Whitepages’ software, services, and applications
  • Ensure team writes high performance, maintainable code that is easy to read, well-documented and compliant with best-practice style conventions.
  • Partner with Product and other Business owners to understand and implement best technical practices, optimization of architecture and troubleshooting
  • Own detailed platform architecture, have broad knowledge across platforms and guide design discussions
  • Take technical information and translates into information easily understood by non-technical staff
  • Communicate closely and effectively with engineering management, leads, and peers to gather and understand requirements, share project status and deal with unexpected issues.
  • Write code containing minimal bugs and write automated tests to validate correctness of code
  • Deploy large-scale web applications
  • Meet development milestones and business requirements on schedule
  • Independently analyze, propose and develop solutions for technical problems and issues. Implement significant pieces of overall solution.
  • Assist with project management tasks (scheduling, task and project estimation, status reports, etc.) as necessary
  • Act as a role model for operational excellence, best practices and execution and mentor less experienced engineers. Foster a healthy sense of urgency and enthusiasm in the team

About you: 

  • BS degree in Computer Science, related degree or equivalent
  • 5+ years experience in software development
  • 3+ years experience with web frameworks (i.e. Django), React Native, iOS and Android operating systems.
  • Strong understanding of software development life cycle
  • Proven ability to write clean code that works, is readable, maintainable and follows best practices and coding standards, on schedule.
  • Fluency in one or more OO languages and expert understanding of OO design, languages, algorithms, data structures, networking, database design and optimization
  • Proven ability to contribute the architectural design of complex systems
  • Expertise in a variety of relevant areas: search engine design, people search, distributed computing, database optimization, high volume, caching, messaging, social networking, mobile applications, web development, etc.
