Job Description

This position is responsible for the management and administration of supported batch applications and scheduling tools for supporting production, development and test regions for all supporting applications, job schedules and software support. The position also provides production and test application support in the areas of design, performance tuning and problem resolution.

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of
    • 7-10 years of mainframe batch programming experience and 3rd party software installation and administration.
    • Applied knowledge of z/OS, JES, IBM JCL, CA-7 including Agent Services and Web Client, CA-11, CA Datacom, CA-JCLCHECK Common Component, BMC AR/CTL, CONNECT:DIRECT, COBOL, SYNCSORT, ISPF Dialog Manager, ENDEVOR and ACF2.

  • The ideal candidate will also have the following experience:
    • Project Design and implementation of new software, systems and jobs schedules.
    • Work with application owners to understand their requests and then design a solution to meet their needs.
    • File transfer and Digital Certificate expertise. Must understand how to transfer files and datasets securely, (SFTP, Connect Direct Secure+). Installation and maintenance of certificates.
    • Working Knowledge of Computer Networks, and Microsoft Office (all). allowing and using standard change control tools.

Engagement Description

Manage the systems development life cycle for the workload automation scheduling software, (CA-7) and supporting products, CA Datacom, CA-11, CA-7 Web Client. This includes design, configuration, and installation of all scheduling and support products.

Provide production and application support as needed in regards to job design, performance tuning and problem resolution.

Design, configure, install and maintain all Workload Automation scheduling environments, Development, QA, Production and all agent software installed on Z/OS, Windows and UNIX/LINUX platforms.

Administration of users, groups, security and policies related to CA7 / CA11. ACF2 administration knowledge is also required for support.

System Administrator and subject matter expert responsible for installation, maintenance and support for the following software products: BMC AR/CTL, ASG Infopac JCL, ASG Infopac ABS, ASG Jobscan, ASG Docutext, CONNECT:DIRECT, Performance Essential, CA JCLCHECK Common Component.

Implements new procedures and techniques to improve overall efficiency of Data Center Services and ensures that they conform to current standards and future standards.

Ensures problem tickets are assigned, reported and resolved on a daily basis.

Maintains expertise in IBM JCL, Logic, CA-7/CA-11, TSO/ISPF, NT, and Windows based navigation and detailed usage, and all other tools, utilities, etc.

Creates Summary and Matrix reports as required relative to daily activity and rates of success.

Designs and builds processes for Business Recovery including support thereof.

Top 3 Required Skills/Experience The most important must-have skills. Include:

CA-7 / CA-11 Scheduling Skills, 5 to 10 years Creating, updating reviewing jobs and schedules. Approving Endevor promotion to production packages. Running impact analysis forecasts, setting up Computer Operations Work Orders. Adding new jobs, creating job flowcharts, PERM datasets, adding dependencies, setting up mutually exclusives, creating job triggers, Adding DSNs to CA7 for dataset triggering, Resolving schedules, CLIST, analysis of current schedules, updating date cards, #JI, setting up holiday processing. Participate in business recovery testing, processing exception plans, updating JCL overrides for future runs. History runs.

  1. TSO / mainframe - base knowledge of all things mainframe, ability to review JES logs, initiator, dataset file size, run strobes, creation of dataset, moving deleting datasets, transferring datasets, hold jobs understanding TSO commands, SDSF job information.
  2. JCL creations, review, modification, scanning 5 to 10 years expert knowledge and understand of PROCs, Programs, EXEC, JOB, DD statements, procedures, sorts, conditional processing.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

Skills/experience ordered from most important (first) to least important (last)

  1. CA-7 or other scheduling product.
  2. IMS Ability to know when to schedule a job according to when the databases are up or down.
  3. DB2 - Ability to know when to schedule a job according to demands on given tables.
  4. SFTP / CONNECT:DIRECT understanding of how to analyze statistics and debug failures.
  5. Service Manager ability to open, close IM tickets, Change Controls, requests
  6. Teacher / Mentor ability to explain and recommend improved scheduling techniques.
  7. z/OS /JES review and check system logs. Problem debug skills.
  8. UNIX remote connect using PUTTY and WinSCP. Ability to invoke line commands as needed in order to view logs, setup SFTP keys etc.
