Our Opportunity:

 

Automation Operational Support (AOS) is part of Data Center Operations. AOS is composed of fundamentally three functional subgroups:

  • Distributed Network Automation (also known as DNA)
  • Mainframe Automation
  • xMatters

 

The AOS Distributed Network Automation Team provides automated monitoring and event notification for IT Operations and provides operational automation for Unix (and flavors of Unix) and Windows servers primarily at the Schwab Data Centers.

 

 

The AOS Mainframe Automation provides automated monitoring, automatic recovery of software and failures whenever possible, and automation of complex manual processes, such as transitioning to Host Fallback systems, management of mainframe networks, and system startup management. Mainframe Automation supports all of Schwab's mainframe systems.

 

 

The AOS xMatters Team provides for the support and administration of the xMatters Notification System which is used by IT Operations to contact Oncall groups, send IT status/issues notifications to management, and to initiate Code Red escalations.

 

 

 What you’ll do:

This position will assist with the oversight, management, integration, and support of the automation and monitoring solutions provided for the mainframe infrastructure and enterprise MQ infrastructure provided by the Mainframe Automation Services organization. This will involve working with mainframe and Linux-based systems and tools. This team provides solutions that support improved availability and reliability of Schwab’s IT infrastructure by enabling IT Operations to detect and quickly respond to events and to escalate appropriately to support personnel. This position will work with other IT organizations to help design and develop scripts and configurations for monitoring, automation, and operational control and will help provide appropriate documentation, training, reporting facilities, and support.

 

What you have:

  • You should have a B.A. or B.S. degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, MIS, or similar degree or equivalent work experiences in a large enterprise environment.
  • You should have education and/or experience in programming and supporting mainframe and/or Linux (or other Unix variations) systems. It is expected that the successful candidate will most likely have either the appropriate mainframe skills or the appropriate Linux skills but possibly not both. The skills you don’t have you will need to be willing to learn.
  •  Expected mainframe skills include good knowledge of mainframe systems, utilities, and languages (e.g. TSO, ISPF, JCL, REXX, z/OS).
  • Prior experience with system automation and monitoring, especially with IBM Tivoli Monitoring OR NetView and System Automation (SA/390 or SA z/OS), is desired.
  • Expected Linux (or other Unix variations) skills include good knowledge of Linux systems in virtualized environments, shell scripting languages, DB2/SQL data base programming, and application troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and teaming skills are expected.
