Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods and outputs through SolidWorks design, product testing, and failure analysis. This sustaining activity is augmented by concurrent Manufacturing and Quality initiatives.  This is a hands-on position requiring HW/SW testing and vendor facing communications as well as design.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate with electromechanical assemblers to understand the problems that they have with the tools they are using
  • Design new tooling and manufacturing processes to improve production and assure the safety of electro-mechanical assemblers
  • Research and test manufacturing and assembly methods and materials
  • Perform root cause analysis
  • Aid quality assurance in mechanical measurements
  • Use fundamental analytic skills to evaluate designs quickly before spending time designing the details
  • Raise an issue or potential issue as soon as possible
  • Mentor other mechanical engineers when appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must demonstrate great problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with electromechanical assemblies including proper handling of delicate electronics
  • Familiarity with pneumatics, basic automation, motion control
  • An understanding of a wide variety of manufacturing and machining processes and work holding
  • Ability to utilize internal resources to determine product requirements, generate recommendations, document findings, and communicate findings to others
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must be willing to do whatever is required to complete task or project on schedule and have a strong commitment to on-time performance with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate a high degree of initiative and motivation and willingness to work proactively, independently or within a team
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or related parametric solid modeling software
  • Some experience with basic metrology, including thread measurements, use of basic measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gages, and CMMs is a plus

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • A minimum of 2 to 5 years’ experience required
