The job of Middleware Engineer is done for the purpose of coordinating projects for the Division of Information Technology Services (ITS). The incumbent will analyze and solve complex ITS issues by relying on an extensive knowledge of enterprise web applications, services, systems and supporting technologies. The Middleware Engineer will also interact with a wide range of technical and non-technical staff to unify the work of the training, programming and technical groups to ensure effective project outcomes. This position is designated as a classified management position and is part of the Management Leadership Team.
KNOWLEDGE of application servers and database infrastructure and configuration; new and existing technology systems; project management; effective communication methods; Jboss; Apache; Enterprise Linux; federal, state and local laws related to duties; relational databases; root-cause analysis; technical writing and data presentation; record keeping and documentation; data and metric analysis; modern office practices, procedures and equipment; enterprise web applications, services, systems and supporting technologies oral and written communication skills.
SKILLS are required to perform multiple highly complex technical and analytical tasks with a need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
ABILITY to coordinate projects in ITS; analyze issues and solve complex ITS issues; unify the work of the training, programming and technical groups; effectively communicate requirements and specifications of various projects; establish and maintain an effective working relationship with staff, school district and county personnel, and other agency personnel; work independently and meet deadlines; maintain confidentiality; provide advisory services to school districts related to scope of work; coordinate and conduct workshops and in-services; solve problems and analyze issues, create plans of action and reach solutions; read technical information; compose a variety of documents; facilitate group discussions; conduct, interpret and apply statistical analysis; meet the travel requirements of the position; and perform job safely.
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions requires the following physical demands: hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard; driving a vehicle to conduct work; seeing to conduct inspection of data; some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; stooping, kneeling, and crouching, significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking and 10% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations, a generally hazard free environment, and in a clean atmosphere.
Three years of experience with middleware, server administration, or programming
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in information systems, computer science, management information systems, education, social science or related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
Valid California driver’s license is required
