Job Description

In an era of dynamic change in space, Aerospace is addressing a generation of complex challenges. We operate the only federally funded research and development center (FFRDC) committed exclusively to the space enterprise. Our technical experts span every discipline of space-related science and engineering. Join our team and thrive in a career that matters to the world and you personally.

The qualified candidate will become part of the Modeling and Simulation Department (MSD). MSD provides world-class analysis to quantify the performance and utility of space, ground, and related systems for the DoD, NRO, Civil, and Commercial Customers. We deliver technical insights of a system's performance in complex scenarios through software development, modeling & simulation, optimization, and data visualization to enable informed decision making, and ultimately, we answer the "So What?" question. Specific areas of focus include military utility analysis, communication architecture and network assessments, space resiliency, unmanned air systems, scenario and concept of operations development, model-based systems engineering, and ballistic missile defense.

  • Support the modeling, simulation, and analysis of DoD, NRO, Civil, and Commercial space systems
  • Develop operational scenarios based on DoD sources for analyses
  • Conduct trade studies of architecture alternatives
  • Develop large-scale, systems-of-systems simulation tools and databases
  • Employ agent-based models to evaluate the contribution of systems and various concept of operations (CONOPS) to successful military operations
  • Perform analyses that incorporate phenomena across multiple disciplines including astrodynamics, communications, reconnaissance, operations research, and missile defense
  • Communicate analysis results to customers, peers, and management
  • Document results of analysis and research in technical reports
  • Work on several projects at any given time and flexibly adapt to different roles within a team environment
  • Demonstrate behavior that is consistent with the company's values of Dedication to Mission Success, Technical Excellence, Commitment to Our People, Objectivity and Integrity, and Innovation

What you need to be successful:

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering, computer science, operations research, industrial engineering, applied mathematics, or related field
  • Typically two or more years of engineering related experience
  • Interest in systems engineering, operations research, and modeling and simulation of complex space systems and operations
  • Problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify, organize, prioritize, and ensure timely completion of tasks
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with customers, contractors, and colleagues
  • High proficiency in one or more programming and scripting languages, such as Python, C++, Java, and JavaScript and samples of scripts or code
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

How you can stand out:

  • Masters or Ph.D. in engineering, computer science, operations research, industrial engineering, applied mathematics, or related field
  • Two years of technical work experience
  • Experience in systems engineering, operations research, astrodynamics, trade studies, engineering research, and agent-based modeling
  • Familiarity with DoD systems including Army, Navy, and Air Force and their CONOPS
  • Familiarity with software development processes and tools
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering
  • Familiarity with Architecture Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM)
  • Familiarity with ontologies, semantic web, data modeling and architecting, and data fusion
  • Excellent writing skills and a sample of written technical work
  • Current DoD/SECRET clearance or higher
