Job Description

Engility is seeking a Network Engineer who can implement equipment installation plans based on the Network Administrator's specifications, maintain each component of the network and troubleshoot issues. The Network Engineer will be responsible for monitoring the network firewall, assessing the functionality of the network routers, ensuring all Internet security software is updated regularly, developing and implementing policies in accordance with the customer IT Manager.


  • Establish networking environment by designing system configuration; conducting system installation; defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards.
  • Manage and configure program routers, switches, and other network hardware
  • Configure DNS servers
  • Maintain firewall and manage security related to hacking
  • Manage owned domain names
  • Design, recommend and implement new solutions to improve the resilience of network operations
  • Maximize network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with system administrators on network optimization.
  • Conduct capacity management and audit of IP addressing and hosted devices within data centers
  • Report network operational status by gathering, troubleshoot problems and outages; prioritize information; and manage projects
  • Secure network system by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access.
  • Collaborate with third-party support and service vendors to ensure that the network stays operational

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have a current/active TS/SCI with CI polygraph
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in network administration, information technology, or computer science
  • Requires 5+ years' experience in managing sophisticated computer networks
  • Requires 3+ years' experience in network architecture and deployment
  • Proven hands-experience in IT, security or systems support, or network administrator positions
  • Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS)
  • Solid understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools
  • Analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to take on a variety of tasks and pay attention to detail
  • Teamwork skills and the ability to feel comfortable working with different teams, clients and groups of staff across an organization;
  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize your workload
  • Proven experience to increase job knowledge through continuing education and professional development opportunities; attending conferences; and reading professional industry publications
  • Open to being on call outside of regular working hours as well as occasional nights and weekends in the office
  • Ability to work well independently and in team settings

  • Experience in Commercial Cloud Services (C2S) or Amazon Web Services
  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certificate, Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) or other vendor specific courses, such as Juniper Certified Internet Expert (JNCIE)
  • CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Network+ certification
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) and/or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)
