Responsible for installing and troubleshooting network telecommunication systems (including wireless and VoIP) to meet the functional objectives of the business. Monitors, troubleshoots and maintains network (LAN, WAN, wireless) multiplexers, hubs and routers, and uses remote monitoring tools. Monitoring usage of shared resources, and handling malfunctioning equipment. Selects, develops, integrates and implements network management applications for Internet components. Involved with the configuration and maintenance of physical and logical network components.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work with network telecommunication customers to address operational issues. Monitor remote locations and communicate with customers to identify problems, implement solutions, and follow-up with results.
Install, monitor, upgrade, and troubleshoot wireless access points, and network devices in compliance with specifications and network standards.
Test electrical properties, distance, continuity and labeling for new and modified network terminations and drops.
Supervise and manage construction standards, bids, route protections and job contractors to ensure that wiring standards and standard products are implemented during remodeling activities, and when satisfying customer requests for physical network modifications.
Maintain the local area network or wide area network, cable and hub room installations, and inventories. Measure, characterize, and document fiber and copper network segments, and make corrections to maintain reliability with minimum service disruptions.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field. Or equivalent work experience.3 to 5 years of IT work experience in infrastructure/network telecommunication environment in implementation, administration and support.
Advanced degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other technically related field and appropriate work experience in the design, implementation and support of network telecommunications systems.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
In-office, outdoor, roof top, in-ceiling, construction site and steam tunnel locales
Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, must be eligible to drive University vehicles, climbing ladders, accessing building crawl spaces, etc.
