As the Nuclear Delivery System Acquisition Engineer, Senior Project Engineer in Aerospace's National Space Systems Engineering Division, you will be responsible for shaping the future of the Nation's nuclear delivery platforms by providing direct support to the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment (A&S) / Information & Integration Portfolio Management (I&IPM) Office. Frequently teaming with other offices within OSD, DOE, USSTRATCOM, the Joint Staff, military Services and the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) the primary responsibilities will include serving as an expert acquisition advisor and technical authority with experience in the critical technologies of Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) weapons systems, for senior customers in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) charged with acquisition oversight and portfolio management of the DoD nuclear weapon system enterprise--with primary emphasis on strategic Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) and Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GSBD) issues pertaining to the DoD-- including system acquisitions, program management, warfighting capabilities, policy and programming. The customer also requires a subject matter expert (SME) in the field of ballistic and maneuvering reentry vehicle (RV) aeroshells. SME should be versed in the requirements driving RV vehicle design, to include aerodynamics, thermodynamics, and benign and hostile environments, and translation of requirements into materiel solutions. SME should have thorough knowledge of RV materiel solutions, particularly materials used in current ballistic RV and future maneuvering aeroshells. Lastly, knowledge of industrial base and supply chain for RV material production is also required. Optional: SME should have expertise in RV integration, consisting of both Department of Energy warhead integration within the RV aeroshell and integration of the RV onto Department of Defense delivery systems.

Must be capable of developing decision-ready material for senior leaders and have the initiative to navigate headquarters and acquisition processes to support the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense nuclear systems portfolio management responsibilities. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise on site in the Pentagon (as the situation permits), and reach-back to corporate technical teams as needed. KEY FUNCTIONS
  • Independently review technical and programmatic documents and artifacts provided by the customer and the vendors/supplier
  • Identify risks and support the resolution of those risks
  • Primary focus will be the ICBM & GBSD programs but the candidate may also assess other strategic deterrence programs at the customer's discretion
  • Provide acquisition and mission assurance oversight, systems engineering, integration, and detailed technical analyses of on-going and proposed modifications and upgrades across the Air Force nuclear enterprise, such as the Minuteman III weapon system, weapon system integration within Minuteman III sub-systems, NC3 systems, and new acquisitions to include Airborne Launch Control System and specifically Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD)
  • When further analysis is required for specific issues, engage other subject matter experts within the Aerospace backplane, OSD, and the Services to lead and complete such analysis

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, mathematics or other related technical discipline from a recognized institution

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • An active TS/SCI clearance
  • A minimum of 12 years experience in systems engineering, technical evaluation, vulnerability assessment, or acquisition oversight in strategic deterrence systems, particularly ICBM/GBSD system
  • Experience in strategic system community utilizing system engineering, risk management, quality, and management principles to achieve success of a design, development, testing, deployment, and operations process, and identifying and mitigating design, production, test, and field support deficiencies that threaten mission success
  • Familiarity with DoD processes for acquisition (DoD 5000) / requirements (JCIDS) & resourcing (PPBE)
  • Broad technical familiarity of DoD NC3 Programs of Record and relevant technologies

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Master's degree in electrical engineering, systems engineering or other related discipline

- DoD acquisition certification

- 12 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including multi-disciplinary systems engineering and/or program management environments

• Experience in nuclear weapons systems community to include Reentry vehicle design, nuclear surety and certification, cruise missile design, flight system, and nuclear weapons design processes

- Previous experience in Air Force Global Strike Command or the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center

- Strong understanding of the DOD acquisition process

• Ability to accomplish OSD-level staff work

• Ability to work in a self-motivated and self-directed manner

• Demonstrated leadership and teaming skills in tasks such as formulating enterprise level plans, executing and leading studies, and utilizing internal technology competency organizations

• Demonstrated capability to perform analysis and technical product delivery, as evidenced through examples of recent integrated work products

• Experience interacting with senior customer personnel on a variety of technical, programmatic, and administrative issues

• Experience in the analysis of complex technical, programmatic, and management environments at a high programmatic level

• Experience in working assignments that are inherently ambiguous; e.g., not fully defined, lack complete information, poorly stated goals or ill-defined objectives

• Knowledge of USD(A&S) missions

- Experience interfacing with and briefing senior government civilians, and military general/flag officers

• Knowledge of Aerospace Engineering and Technology Group (ETG) skills and capabilities

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENTS

- Position requires working at the Pentagon, when directed by the customer and situation permitting

• Some travel is required. Local travel to off-site meetings and air travel to CONUS Aerospace locations or customer locations is required

- While performing duties of this job, the candidate will typically work in an office environment, however may at times need to be able to tele-work
