Information Technology (IT) at Pew takes a proactive approach toward the use of technology to increase the organization's capacity for exceptionally high-quality strategic philanthropy. Executive staff at Pew recognizes the importance of technology, and supports related initiatives to advance the institution's goals and achieve and maintain a leadership position in the philanthropic community. As a result, IT is in a mode of continuous improvement, applying leading-edge technology to the pursuit of the goals of the institution.
The department comprises highly competent, forward-thinking professionals who are responsible for the technology needs of all Pew staff, as well as for Pew's subsidiaries in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. IT is organized into distinct areas of responsibility, including strategic alignment of technology with the business, the evaluation and acquisition of software and hardware, implementation new systems and data repositories, and providing support for the extended network, desktop computer hardware, and software applications.
The Officer, Project Delivery (Senior IT Project Manager), is an application-agnostic project management professional operating in a fast-paced and high-performing environment. This position leads strategic technology initiatives, working in partnership with other technology teams and business stakeholders. The Officer is expected to be an expert in industry standards and best practices related to project delivery, and must have strong relationship management skills, including the ability to influence business staff and establish credibility with stakeholders at all levels. Ultimately, this position contributes to the larger responsibility of the Project Delivery unit to ensure the technology project portfolio aligns with the organization's current and emerging strategic objectives.
The Officer, Project Delivery (Senior IT Project Manager) reports to the Director, Project Delivery and will help to coach and mentor junior staff, but will not directly supervise staff.
* Works with the Director, Project Delivery, and IT senior leadership to align the technology project portfolio with strategic objectives and related organizational priorities, while balancing demand with fluctuating resources.
* Collaborates with relevant program and operations units on detailed requirements gathering; contributes to planning, implementation, and tracking of projects and their deliverables. Gathers requirements and determines the scope of projects. Identifies resource requirements and fiscal needs.
* Establish and maintain key relationships with Pew program and operations staff; work with the business to align the project portfolio with institutional and programmatic goals; maintain conversance with internal hierarchy and the ability to navigate complex organizational dynamics.
* Manages the project plan, including maintaining accurate timelines, milestones and dependencies. Leads project meetings, including soliciting discussion items, producing agendas, and managing meeting minutes and related action items. Communicates assignments and expectations to project team members and tracks completion of project deliverables to ensure quality and integrity. Resolves project conflicts with assistance from the director, Project Delivery (as necessary).
* Observes project management practices and proposes process improvements. Works within pre-established guidelines and pre-defined templates to perform the required tasks.
* Proactively identifies project risks and problems requiring resolution and recommends strategies and tactics to mitigate. Provides options and analysis of their impact to stakeholders and builds consensus around the mitigation approach.
* Provides reports and status updates to senior management and key stakeholders.
* Manages project deliverables, analyzes / interprets project requirements and makes recommendations as appropriate.
* Coaches, mentors and advises junior staff as pertains to project management activities.
* Maintains necessary documentation in the project repository.
* Other duties as assigned.
* Bachelor's degree required, with advanced coursework preferred.
* Minimum of eight years of experience with relevant project management, demonstrating progressively greater responsibility for managing technology solution delivery. PMP certification or other professional project management accreditation is a plus.
* Three or more years experience implementing enterprise-grade or software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions, including experience managing third-party providers in the context of pre-defined project scope.
* Able to manage multiple large projects and teams concurrently, and to adapt to changes in requirements and priorities as necessary. Ability to set priorities, organize time and identify resources for projects. Experience working with geographically distributed teams and program staff preferred.
* Robust client-facing skills, customer-service orientation and high level of enthusiasm. Able to engender and sustain a culture of strong customer service with subordinate staff; confident and able to quickly establish credibility with subordinates, peers and superiors.
* Experience working with SaaS applications, cloud technologies, and large ERP implementations.
* Able to communicate complex technical challenges and strategy in non-technical language to senior management and business users.
* Ability to draft and deliver high-level communications, including executive summaries of large, complicated technical projects and their related risks, rewards and costs. Able to write and supervise staff writing user and system documentation for software applications.
* Able to work under tight deadlines, manage shifting priorities, and control project change.
* Robust oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.
* Experience in results-driven non-profit environment (e.g., advocacy organization, think tank) preferred.
Occasional travel required between Pew's Philadelphia and Washington, DC offices. Minimal additional travel required to attend trainings, seminars or conferences.
