Job Description

We are seeking an innovative, creative and experienced Digital Hardware Engineer who is ready for the challenges, responsibilities, and rewards that come with working in a high-energy, fast-paced environment. iDirect Government is dedicated to providing next generation solutions for broadband IP networking via satellite networks. This position is located at iDirect Government Technologies office in Herndon, VA. The candidate will be responsible for participating in all development phases beginning with high level concept design and ending with production release. Key design areas are power design and digital design with a focus on high speed interfaces, FPGA, memory circuits, Ethernet.

Background Experience:

  • Follow a hardware engineering development methodology

  • Translate systems requirements into hardware functional blocks

  • Evaluate architectural trade-offs to meet product requirements

  • Select critical components to meet design requirements

  • Develop clear and concise hardware description document that includes block diagrams

  • Design and develop digital hardware with a focus on FPGA platforms, on high?speed digital interfaces

  • Implement digital designs using schematic capture software tools for generation of net lists, parts lists

  • Simulate critical or uncertain sections of the design, e.g. SPICE

  • Develop layout and routing guidelines

  • Actively participate in the design layout phase including component placement and trace routing

  • Develop DVT plan

  • Possesses extensive hands-on experience in the lab for debugging and testing all parts of the digital design

  • Work closely with engineering services (CAD, Mechanical design, Component Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Test)

  • Support designs that are currently in manufacturing


  • Experience in digital design (embedded processor, FPGA, PCIe, multi-Gigabit Ethernet, JESD204B)

  • Experience with memory device implementation (DDR3/4 SDRAM, parallel and serial NOR and NAND Flash, SD, e*MMC)

  • Experience in switching power supply design

  • Awareness of regulatory standards

  • Experience with DxDesigner schematic capture software

  • Awareness of signal integrity and EMI/EMC issues and practical knowledge of reducing emissions and susceptibility

  • Awareness of DFx (Design for PCB fabrication, for manufacturing, for test)

  • Experience of PCB stackup development

  • Awareness of high-density PCB techniques

  • Experience in hybrid RF/Digital PCB board layout

  • Experience of layout review

  • Practical experience in the use of test equipment (DSO, Logic Analyzer, FRA, etc.)

  • Design and implementation of FPGA and/or CPLD applications using HDL (Verilog or VHDL) is a plus

  • Scripting (VB, C#, Perl, Tcl/Tk, Python, Ruby) for the purpose of test automation would be an asset

Education: BS in Electrical Engineering or closely related field from an accredited University/College. At least 12 years of work experience.
