As a specialist in polymers and non-metallic materials this is an exciting opportunity for a Research & Development Chemist. Who will shape the future in Geothermal, Oil & Gas, and Carbon Capture.

Interact with customers, universities, and a broad range of internal stakeholders from the manufacturing floor to senior and executive leadership. The scope of work for the candidate will span a wide array of technologies including sensors, electric motors, pumps, seals, variable speed drives, IIOT devices, and electrical cable that will be deployed in some of the most challenging environments on the planet.

As a Principle Research & Development Chemist, you will be responsible for:

  • Scoping and leading all aspects of complex research and product development projects
  • Performing materials analysis for product development, research and sustaining with emphasis on scientific understanding of structure-property relationships, failure analysis, design of manufacturing processes, and reliability/life prediction analysis
  • Development of the next generation of material compounds and material systems from the white board to final product
  • Communicating project results to customers, senior/executive leadership, and industry forums


  • Interacting with universities to develop research partnerships and guide work conducted within research consortia
  • Performing hands on work in our state-of-the-art materials lab and product test facilities
  • Assessing results for applicability, validity, and conformance to specifications
  • Supporting the development of the research and product development strategy for polymers and non-metallic compounds for the division
  • Guiding and serving as the champion for the purchase of new capital assets to expand the research and product development capabilities associated with polymers and non-metallic materials


Fuel your passion

To be successful in this role the candidate will have:

  • Havea master's degree or higher in Chemistry or Material Science with a specialty in polymer and non-metallic materials with 5-8+ yrs of applied experience


  • Must be action-oriented, ethical in value, and have a strong customer focus
  • Be the Subject matter expertise with polymetric analysis using DMA, TGA, FTIR, and DSC
  • Have demonstrated understanding of polymer science, manufacturing processes, analytical characterizations, and measurement techniques.
  • Be versed in the selection of polymer and non-metallic materials for extreme environmental use in Geothermal, Oil and Gas, Carbon Capture, and other energy applications.
  • Have working knowledge of modeling, simulation, and testing techniques for polymers and non-metallic materials with a focus on characterization, performance, and service life


  • Have experience with and or working knowledge of the following elastomeric materials:EPDM, NBR, HNBR, FKM, and or FFKM.
  • Have experience with and or knowledge of the following materials:PEEK, PEAK, PPS, PTFE, PFA, FEP, and or PVDF.


Desired Characteristics:

  • Have general experience and or knowledge of Ceramics, Epoxies, and HT coatings is a plus.
  • Have familiarity with processes used in polymer manufacturing, compounding, and component manufacturing
  • Have the ability to develop material models that can be applied in finite element analysis
  • Have the ability to utilize methods such as DOE to develop material models for physical characteristics, degradation, and performance


  • Have demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skillset executed against multidimensional challenges
