This role is within the Converged Platforms and Solutions Division (CPSD) of Dell EMC. The role will work as part of a newly established VxRail R&D group which will work within VXRail R&D within Converged Platforms & Solutions Division and will focus on sustaining and post-release engineering of VxRail Hyper Converged Infrastructure Appliances and will be the key interface between Support and R&D on troubleshooting, debugging and deep dive engineering on VxRail components.


Principal Solutions Engineer (VxRail R&D Post-Release Engineering)


Job Specification


Product sustaining position within the VxRail organization.Provide in-depth technical expertise for VxRail product line. Provide escalation support for EMC Global Services Technical Support team. Interface with corporate and field customer service organizations in order to provide engineering level support for the worldwide VxRail install base. Work closely with VMware product engineering. Produce conclusive root cause analysis for bugs found in the field. Become the hands-on technical expert for one or more assigned product / technology areas. Fix, test and check-in assigned customer bugs maybe required. Manage meetings with developers and QA and interface with customer service on specific customer issues.


Key Requirements


At least 8 years experience in a Solutions Engineer, Enterprise Support/Escalation Engineer or Software Sustaining Engineer role.


Knowledge of VMware environment is essential


Advanced technical skills with experience with the following operating systems; Microsoft Windows, Linux.Minimum of 5 years current technical experience with networking.


Ability to diagnose network traces.


Experience with Virtualization products a plus. Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.


Strong written and oral communication skills. Fully functional with Microsoft Office suite (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel).


Additional Requirements: BS/MS in CS, EE or in a related discipline and 8+ years of experience in a VMware support environment. Requires proficiency in Perl, Python and shell scripting - Java and/or XML are a plus. Linux expertise must include some of the following: Misc. system configuration (kernel (patching), network), file systems, boot-loaders (LILO, GRUB), RPM, system performance tuning and troubleshooting/debugging (gdb, core dump analysis). Kernel/driver development experience (debugging (kdb, kgdb) and profiling) a plus. Knowledge of storage systems, networking beneficial.
