Job Description

job summary:

Works within the Product Management department - a company which develops and delivers laboratory informatics software. Helps conduct market requirements analysis and define product and services that address those needs. This position involves close interaction with developers, product architects, professional services, and key customers. Job duties include participating in requirements gathering from existing and potential customers as well as recent evaluators, contributing to market requirements documents, reviewing the Agile product backlogs, and acting as the voice of the customer during the implementation of each product project.

Product Manager's responsibilities include the following: This is not an exhaustive task list and other duties may be assigned as deemed appropriate or warranted by immediate manager.

  • Conduct market research using industry analysts, existing and prospective customers, domain regulations, industry consortiums, publications and media, surveys, focus groups, internal customer groups, competitors, etc.
  • Use market research to contribute to fact-based decisions for product and service expansion with new and upgraded offerings.
  • Develop product revenue forecasts, measure, and monitor sales performance against them
  • Support the creation, management of, and participation in, leading customer groups, including advisory boards, experts, domain groups, etc.
  • Contribute to the product portfolio, including current and future-looking perspectives; help author and communicate the portfolio in different formats for communication to a wide range of audiences: executive, employees, customers, prospects.
  • Write and contribute to various collateral, including Sales, website, social media, white papers.
  • Contribute to product user requirements using an Agile approach, for example use cases or user stories.
  • Validate product user requirements are being met as the software iterations are built.
  • Oversee and contribute to industry-specific, and solution-specific product components, which are add-ons to the core software
  • Contribute to the annual customer training and education conference, in addition to ad hoc customer events as required
  • Contribute to the creation and delivery of new product training that are required for internal customers to be trained prior to public product launches

Job Qualifications Necessary

  • At least 4 years of experience in running labs, or helping laboratories improve their processes, or using Lean methodology to improve business processes.
  • Any product management, development or consulting experience is a plus.
  • Ability to articulate a long-term, strategic vision.
  • strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to effectively participate on cross-functional teams, provide leadership, develop, and manage project plans, prioritize activities.
  • Must be capable of presenting to, and working with, all levels of an organization.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) or other laboratory informatics software preferred.
  • PMC III or above certification with Pragmatic Institute (or similar) preferred.
  • At least a bachelor's degree required; MSA, MBA, or above preferred.
