Your Opportunity

The Charles Schwab's Capital Markets Technology organization is looking for an experienced and motivated Application Production Support Engineer to be part of a team comprised of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) supporting a large portfolio of systems and applications in the Treasury and Securities Lending Technology space. Your responsibilities include working with a blended development team of on-shore and off-shore SMEs, systems administrators, DBAs, and business analysts to perform troubleshooting and resolution efforts of incidents impacting production systems.

What you are good at

  • Support Financial Services applications as an SME Production Support Engineer
  • Solve problems and provide support, taking responsibility to make decisions when appropriate
  • Leverage ITIL principles to bring scale and efficiency to the organization
  • Expand alerting and monitoring to improve operational resiliency and availability
  • Employ monitoring to improve Mean Time To Detect (MTTD) and Mean Time To Resolve (MTTR) metrics as part of analyzing trends and making recommendations for continuous improvement
  • Drive Incident Management calls, providing clear, concise, and timely communication to Application and Business stakeholders during the triage, troubleshooting, investigation, and resolution of any individual or system-wide outages
  • Analyze and resolve production application issues
  • Document and maintain resolutions in the Schwab Knowledge Base Article System
  • Develop/Improve Production Readiness process to ensure the team is ready to support features deployed to production
  • Coordinate application maintenance activities, such has OS upgrades, Disaster Recovery exercises, Vulnerability Remediations, certificate renewals, password rotations, etc .
  • Maintain and promote environment objects such as certificates, password rotations, currency patching in alignment with best practices, security standards and guidelines
  • Responsible for ensuring the Change Implementation Management policies are adhered to for all changes deployed to Production
  • Provide off hours release / deployment and on-call support of service recovery events


What you have

  • Degree in Computer Science or Engineering
  • 6+ years Application Production Support/Operations providing Level 2 support
  • Previous experience supporting financial services applications, preferably in the Treasury and or Securities Lending lines of business
  • Working knowledge of automated deployment processes and tools such as Bitbucket/Bamboo and/or Jenkins
  • Exposure to Cloud/SaaS applications
  • SQL/Databases (SQL Server)
  • OS: Windows, Linux
  • Control-M or similar enterprise automation technology
  • ITRS, Splunk, & AppDynamics
  • ITIL Processes including Change, Incident, Problem Management, & Root Cause Analysis
  • .Net/C#/Java Exposure
  • IIS / WebSphere
  • Knowledge of RabbitMQ or similar messaging systems
  • Knowledge of F5 Load Balancer
  • Remedy, JIRA, Confluence

  • Self-motivated with a strong ability to identify and prioritize multiple issues

  • Accustomed to working in stressful environments
  • Ability to forge strong relationships and coordinate effectively with multiple parties during outages and actively communicate updates to Application Development and Business partners
  • Detail oriented and organized with strong analytical skills
  • Team player with strong collaborative qualities and a positive demeanor

Familiarity with the financial services domain or a strong desire to learn about the industry
