Job Description

Position Purpose:

The Programmer/Analyst is responsible for the analysis, design, development, implementation and maintenance of systems and applications to support the business and management needs of the College. This position will lead small and large-scale projects independently and will participate in team decision-making processes.

Job Duties:

  • Business Analysis:
    •  Analyze business and information needs of College departments. 
    • Identify processes and needs for application development, modification, and implementation.
  • Design, development, and support of database and web applications:
    • Design, develop, and modify secure and accessible applications for College Departments using third party and customized solutions.
    • Perform peer review of developed solutions.
    • Work closely with departments to assure compliance with needs and to provide application support.
    • Apply third-party software upgrades and defect corrections as needed.
    • Configure systems to support applications.
    • Install, configure and support third party software.
  • Project Management:
    • Manage day-to-day operational aspects of a project and scope.
    • Determine project timelines, track milestones and deliverables. Develop and implement standards and procedures for systems analysis, program development and data manipulation. Train College personnel to access information and assist them in developing and maintaining documentation for their applications.
  • Additional Accountabilities
    • Consistently strive to increase level of expertise on applicable software, web technologies, security and operating systems.
    • Learn new technologies as needed.
    • Participate in software evaluations and assessments of new technologies.
    • Connect with industry peers to forge mutually beneficial relationships.
    • Work collaboratively with staff from Information Services and other departments.
    • Other duties (including serving on departmental and campus working groups and committees) as assigned. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

• Bachelor's degree in field related to position or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

• A minimum of 3 years of high-level Oracle PL/SQL programming in a Unix or Linux environment, or 3+ years of experience with other high-level relational database programming languages.
• Experience identifying and resolving SQL performance issues
• Experience working with command-line tools on Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems.
• Experience developing web applications and solid understanding of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
• Demonstrated ability to determine project timelines and complete projects on time.
 

Skills and Knowledge

• Ability to think creatively and logically, handle multiple priorities, resolve problems, identify tasks, and develop modular programs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to create a collaborative relationship with customers, and to convey computing concepts effectively to non-technical users.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to synthesize complex or diverse information.
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
• Impeccable organizational (time, task, project management) skills and ability to coordinate resources and staff within the college community.
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships. Must be flexible, collaborative and have a positive attitude.
• Willingness and ability to learn additional applications as needed.
• Ability and willingness to travel (by car, air, train or bus) as needed.
• Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
• Ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings and other non-traditional schedules.
