Public Health Informatician, Remote/Atlanta, GA/McLean, VA/Bedford, MA
Our client is seeking a Public Health Informatician for a full-time, direct hire opportunity.
It is desired to have someone who can work out of Atlanta, GA, McLean, VA or Bedford, MA, however remote work is also an option for a strong candidate.
Currently, all work is remote due to COVID.
Will be part of our client's teams that advise federal, state, and local stakeholders as these agencies seek to modernize their public health data and technology infrastructure.
In this role, candidates will advise the government on the best public health tools and resources needed to improve timeliness, completeness, and quality of reporting to public health agencies at the local, state, and federal level. Candidates’ recommendations will inform federal agency decision-making on how their technology and data management choices support appropriate and effective exchange of information between public health entities and between public health and partner organizations. Candidates in this role will also advise federal agencies around data and technology solutions that support evidence-based intervention strategies that reduce morbidity and mortality.
Candidates will apply their knowledge of the broad principles of computer science, information sciences, and behavioral and management sciences to enable effective public health research, surveillance, response, and evaluation that will support improved decision making for these federal agencies They will lead and manage multi-disciplinary teams with a variety of health and non-health related backgrounds to develop solutions that serve the federal governments’ efforts to modernize their data and technology infrastructure. Successful candidates will ensure that these multi-disciplinary teams consider the unique aspects of public health informatics in their problem-solving activities. They will develop reports and presentations for both lay and professional public health audiences that effectively communicate findings and promote recommendations to improve efficacy. They will also support and coordinate multi-site, multi-agency, and multi-stakeholder initiatives to help advance key national public health objectives.
The ideal candidate for this role understands that informatics is not merely the application of data science, analytics, or management science. Rather, it is the synthesis of these fields to support the transformation of raw data into useable information through the integration of those fields with behavioral science.
*** Our client is looking for someone who has familiarity and demonstrated experience working with a wide variety of public health systems at the local, state and/or federal agency level.
Advanced degree (Masters or higher) in either public health science or informatics
7 or more years applied experience working at a local, state, tribal, territorial, or federal public health agency
Applied expertise working with public health information systems, open data sources, and data standards
Applied expertise working with public health data sets conducting data analyses and quality assurance practices, and storing data efficiently
Applied expertise in electronic information exchange between public health data systems and other information systems
Provide translation between information technology experts and public health and health care subject matter experts
The ideal candidate will also have some of the following experience:
Creating and leveraging resources through collaborative public and private partnerships to advance public health goals
Working with the Federal Government in a consulting or advisory role
Convening and leading stakeholder groups
Knowledge of public health response, especially as concerns public health surveillance, interventions
Knowledge of critical public health internal and external stakeholders at the state, tribal, local or territorial levels and/or working with CDC
Knowledge of state and federal public health laws, including public health reporting
Knowledge of advanced statistical methods used in cutting-edge epidemiologic analyses
