Dahl Consulting is seeking a SQL DBA, ideally with some exposure to Hadoop for a contract to hire role in St. Paul.
The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent work experience with a minimum of 3 or more years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server in an enterprise environment. They must demonstrate knowledge of basic data platform operations like High Availability configuration, backup and recovery. Experience in Big Data technologies is essential for this position.
Excellent knowledge of UNIX/LINUX OS; RHEL 7.x is a plus.
Strong relational database technology experience; SQL Server preferred
Experience working with large and complex data sets with multi-terabyte scale
Experience with cluster monitoring tools like Ambari, Ganglia, or Nagios.
Knowledge of core Java is a plus for Hadoop admin but not mandatory.
Knowledge of all the components in the Hadoop ecosystem like Apache Pig, Apache Hive, Apache Mahout, etc.
Knowledge of architecture and design of highly available/scalable distributed systems.
Experience with NoSQL technologies such as ElasticSearch or Cassandra.
SQL on Hadoop technologies such as Hive, Impala or Presto.
Experience using cloud services such as Azure (preferred) and AWS
Knowledge of high degree configuration management and automation tools like Puppet or Chef for non-trivial installation.
Good understanding of OS concepts, process management and resource scheduling.
Basics of networking, CPU, memory and storage.
Support both relational as well as Big Data platforms.
Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and internal policy and guidelines
Administer technical solutions to improve data usage, presentation, integration, predictive and prescriptive analytics capabilities.
Responsible for life-cycle management of all Bremer s data platforms.
Provide Hadoop file system (HDFS) and core Hadoop component services administration.
Monitors Hadoop cluster activities and performance with the ability to resolve most warnings and critical errors.
Supports internal development team and follows required change management procedures when core cluster services are impacted.
Monitor and manage server health, functionality and availability related to database servers.
Install, configure, secure and maintain technical Dev, QA and Production environments.
Work with Microsoft Support and other 3rd party vendors in resolution of support issues on as-needed basis.
Configure and maintain SQL Server Always On High Availability.
Provides direct support of Microsoft SQL servers, databases and related enterprise applications.
Adheres to technical standards, procedures and techniques for the resolution of enterprise database problems to ensure maximum application availability and performance.
Collaborates with other IT technical engineers, developers and Program Management.
Experience with a Data Warehouse.
Participates in an on-call rotation
