SENIOR IT PROFESSIONAL – APPLICATIONS (DATABASE ADMINISTRATION CSMART)                                                                                                       

Division: Enterprise Application Services

Reporting Location: 1100 Louisiana, Houston TX 77002                                   

Workdays & Hours: MONDAY – FRIDAY 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM*   *Subject to Change

                                                                               

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This senior level Database Administrator is responsible for highly complex projects involving the organization's databases. Supports database integration requirements, CSMART and its suite of integrated technologies.  Researches data requirements for specific applications or users, and designs database structures and application capabilities to match.   Provide highest level of technical advise to the team and clients for installation, setup, configuration of databases.

Under general direction, formulates and defines system scope and objectives. Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results.  May be responsible for completion of a phase of a project. Regularly provides guidance and training to less-experienced database administrators.


WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.  Significant time spent using computer display, keyboard, and mouse.  The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.  Operates a motor vehicle.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field.  Usually has advanced technical certifications that demonstrate mastery of a specialized application. 


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

At least six (6) years of technology experience supporting applications.  Advanced certifications and/or greater than six (6) years applicable experience may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the education requirement. 

Experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERENCES

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

Preference will be given to applicants possessing the following:

  • Experience with capacity planning, database configuration, and performance optimization.
  • Experience in DevOps environments using configuration management systems such as MS Database projects and Azure DevOps.
  • Supporting a mission critical database technology environment.
  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms and deployments (Amazon Web Services/Microsoft Azure).
  • Experience with trouble shooting SQL Server FCI (Failover Cluster Instance) / AlwaysOn Availability Groups
