This position is responsible for serving as role models of technical leadership and providing a depth of expertise on the security protections supported by IDSG. They are expected to provide mentorship, vision, wisdom and knowledge to a broad spectrum of areas across diverse and high profile projects that encompass the widest possible scope of interaction across the Federal Reserve System and National IT. Principal security engineers, in particular, are expected to serve as key stakeholders and experts within the realm of the security controls. They are expected to be teachers and leaders in the realm of best security practices. Principle security engineers should have the depth of experience and knowledge necessary to solve complex security problems, address risk remediation at the highest levels, and solve complex problems with ingenuity that encompasses the vast scope of challenges required within IDSG.
1. Provides protection of IT systems to the Federal Reserve System through the design and architecture of the security technology that comprises the boundary and directory security infrastructure.
2. Is knowledgeable in advanced risk and remediation principles and practices.
3. Develops designs, solutions and services for secure connections for various business needs through requirements gathering and risk identification by using industry best practices while meeting System standards.
4. Provides thought leadership and contributes to technology road mapping for the department and the Federal Reserve for boundary and directory security technologies.
5. Provides coordinated management of multiple high profile projects that span across various business lines and customers. Manages, monitors, and reports on cost, resource, schedule and project performance.
6. Recognizes and anticipates new developments and security threats in information systems technology in collaboration with other internal and external groups. Provides innovative thought leadership, and drives change to adapt and prepare.
7. Test, research and develop new technologies, processes, solutions and efficiencies to balance business needs with security controls. Develop plans to enable new technology and services, and participate in communication and deployment activities.
8. Provide expert and group mentoring support for various security technologies. Responsible for facilitating a greater understanding of security technologies both within IDSG and across National IT. Serves as a role model for talent development.
9. Participate in an on-call rotation. After hours and weekend work may be required in order to perform tasks and maintenance that cannot be done during business hours.
All employees assigned to this position will be subject to FBI fingerprint/ criminal background and Patriot Act/ Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) watch list checks at least once every five years.
Due to the access to sensitive material, this role carries a risk rating that requires additional
backgroundscreening criteria be met. This may not be complete until after you begin working at the
Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. The risk rating for this position has been determined as "HIGH" and the
enhanced screening consists of the following:
• verification of prior employment (via inquiry and/or interviews);
• verification of education (via inquiry, and/or transcripts, and/or interviews);
• verification of residence (via inquiry, and/or interviews, and/or rental records);
• verification of ship;
• personal interview with you;
civil court record checks in jurisdictions where you have admitted civil action during the previous five
• personal source testimonies from seven (7) people who have direct knowledge about you and
• such other screening criteria that may be required by your role.
While the results of this additional riskbased screening are pending, even if you have already commenced
employment at the Reserve Bank, you would be in a provisional status. Hence, we would provide you with
two notifications: the first, after your initial preemployment screening is complete; the second, after you
have passed this additional riskbased screening.

must provide appropriate document(s) to verify your status as a . These documents may
