We are currently recruiting for a Sr. BI Developer located in our Support Center (Global Headquarters) located in Irving, TX.

What will you be doing?

The Sr. Developer of Data Analytics application team will be responsible for design and development of BI visualization solution. Must be able to work independently and function as a liaison between the business community and the technical community. Responsibilities include translating business requirements into specific technical requirements and providing technical knowledge, leadership and support. Also support the Business team in getting day-to-day users issues resolved on timely manner.

How will you do it?

Development:

  • Independently partners with the Functional leads and Data engineering teams to assess and understand business requests.
  • Assists functional leads with gathering, clarifying, translating and defining business requirements into specific technical requirements.
  • Prepares, participates and delivers technical designs to the project development teams and provides appropriate review feedbacks.
  • Actively collaborates with internal and external partners in delivering quality code/reports/dashboards leveraging Michaels visualization tools and technologies.
  • Duties include, but are not limited to, coding, applying proper programming standards, documenting major changes from core functionality, etc. using BI visualizations tools.
  • Gains understanding of the systems utilizing, conducts research and fact finding to solve business problems and meet the business needs.
  • Expected development activities include working from an approved product backlog to convert new feature & enhancement requests to compatible code.

Support:

  • Assist with change management activities to deliver business solutions.
  • Expected support activities include ensuring the proper maintenance & stability of all applications in scope.
  • Duties include, but are not limited to, ongoing ticket review, communicating status of resolution, impact analysis, end-to-end ticket resolution, performance issues, etc.
  • Provides technical support during implementation and post-implementation phases of a project.
  • Assists in the project close and transition of the project to the support team.
  • Provides level 3 support for Michaels Visualization applications in his/her area of responsibility.

Testing & User Acceptance:

  • Assists in the preparation of testing strategies, test plans and test cases including performance testing.
  • Leads both ends to end and user acceptance phase of projects.
  • Compiles testing results.
  • Compiles and tracks issues.
  • Communicates defects discovered in UAT.
  • Provides general support for the business during user acceptance testing.

Planning:

  • Works with the internal teams to assess and understand business requests.
  • Assists functional leads in identifying, clarifying, and documenting the objectives and benefits of any project or enhancement request.
  • Analyzes, translates, and prepares business/user requirements.
  • Analyzes current business processes and provides suggestions for improvements of system efficiencies.
  • Analyze existing Michaels Visualization solutions and identify opportunities to leverage partner capabilities.
  • Expected platform governance activities include product roadmap, security compliance, industry trends.

General Responsibilities:

  • Maintains effective communication with management and project teams.
  • Liaison between the architecture and the project development teams.
  • Adheres to department SDLC agile process and project framework.
  • Supports and adheres to defined architectural standards.
  • Duties include but are not limited to, preparing for passage of quarterly PCI audits, managing audit trail of all production changes, ensuring IT PMO adherence, ensuring the latest SDLC best-practices are adhered to, etc.
  • Adheres to well-regulated use Michaels Data analytics governance framework with regards to change management process.

Minimum Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or Finance
  • Strong proficiency in Business intelligence reporting tools.
  • Experience in reports development in standard tools like Birst and/or MicroStrategy and/or Tableau.
  • Experience in big data environment preferred.
  • Experience as admin in any standard reporting tool
  • Retail system or business experience will be preferred.
  • Competencies such as analysis and judgment,
  • Experienced in documenting business, process and data flows
  • Understanding of systems development life cycle including issue, risk and scope management
  • Understanding of test strategies, test plans, and test execution
  • Experience working with 3rd party and offshore development or support partners a plus
  • Key competencies such as practicing continuous learning by researching and applying best practices, providing honest and constructive feedback, encouraging open expression of ideas and opinions, actively listening to others etc.
  • 7+ years progressive work experience, within a retail environment
  • 5+ years of technology experience, including troubleshooting and performing root cause analysis of complex IT solutions
  • 2+ years of project management experience
  • Good understanding of the Retail domain
  • Experience in gathering requirements
  • Experienced in documenting business, process and data flows
  • Understanding of systems development life cycle including issue, risk and scope management
  • Understanding of test strategies, test plans and test execution
  • Proficiency developing automated unit tests

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Certifications in Business intelligence tools and technologies
