Job Description

On a day-to-day basis, this individual will be responsible for managing a team of database administration (DBA) professionals. This individual will be responsible for database project intake and resource management, database ticketing and queue management, as well as setting strategic goals and initiatives for our Database infrastructure both on-prem and in the cloud. This individual should be familiar with all aspects of Microsoft SQL Server and Azure database infrastructure. Additional database technologies preferred. This individual will also interface with development and application teams fostering collaboration on database architecture decisions.

Essential Job Function/Responsibilities
1. Experience managing a team of DBA Professionals in a highly complex, regulated environment.
2. Previous technical experience administering Microsoft SQL Servers, including clusters and cloud database technologies.
3. Responsibility for overseeing use of non-Microsoft database technologies including MongoDB.
4. Responsibility for overseeing use of cloud database technologies.
5. Collaborate with Application and Development teams on the use, optimization and troubleshooting of database technologies, including an understanding of Agile/SCRUM development practices.
6. Familiar with DevOps practices and tooling for automation with respect to database automation and code management.
7. Ensure the success of application architecture review, design, new environment setup, and deployments
8. Keep leadership apprised at all times on the health and availability of production systems with timely updates, metrics and reports as required.
9. The ability to properly handle sensitive and confidential information (including HIPAA and PHI) in accordance with federal and state laws and company policies.
10. Provide leadership, mentoring and coaching to staff personnel
11. Must excel in a fast-paced, agile environment where critical thinking and strong problem solving skills are required for success.
12. Maintain databases and environments to support business goals.
13. Develop, test, and monitor data feeds to support client programs.
14. Participate in data migrations for launches of new programs.
15. Assist IT staff with SQL development and query optimization, security and production data processes.
16. Take part in technical and business discussions, share ideas, and provide feedback with the goals of providing knowledge transfer and the continual improvement of the Information Technology Department.
17. Other tasks and projects as assigned.

Technical Skills:
• Ability to holistically manage all aspects of SQL Server 2008/2012/2016 technical portfolio against commonly-accepted industry and Microsoft best practices
• Demonstrated high level of proficiency in Transact SQL (T-SQL)
• OLTP database design (OLAP database design experience a plus)
• SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS experience desired.
• TDE (Transparent Database Encryption) a plus.
• Ability to work with development staff to foster adoption of MSSQL/T-SQL best practices.
• Strong information assurance skill set (i.e., auditing, security, DR, backup/restore, availability, etc.)
• 10+ Years of experience preferred spanning more than one environment.
• 5+ years’ experience managing Database teams using multiple databases and database technologies.
• Planning for growth and scaling of database systems for performance
• MongoDB and other non-Microsoft SQL Server database technologies a plus
• TDE (Transparent Database Encryption) a plus.
• Data Warehousing experience a plus
• Cloud-based database technologies a plus


• Five years or more as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA
• Demonstrated experience in MSSQL-specific performance and availability initiatives
• Previous experience implementing and managing transparent database encryption (TDE) in a production enterprise MSSQL environment
• Technical leadership in a high-assurance environment (e.g., PCI, HIPAA, PII etc.)
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Dynamics AX databases highly preferred
• Experience in selection and implementation of third-party MSSQL management tool suites
• Previous Microsoft Windows Server management experience desired
• MCDBA and/or other, related Microsoft certifications desired
• PostgreSQL DBA and/or development experience a plus
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Equipment Used
Standard office equipment.

Physical Demands
Most tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate.
Ability to sit at a desk for up to 8 hours per day. Walking and standing are occasionally required. Length of time of these tasks may vary from day-to-day and task-to-task.
Requires dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
Ability to spend extended lengths of time viewing a computer screen.
Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
Occasional work will be performed in our Data Centers or Network Closets. When performing work in our Data Centers or Network Closets, you may be required to lift or assist in lifting equipment up to 50 lbs.
