Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated, flexible, and detail oriented Enterprise Messaging Systems Administrator to join the Infrastructure team at our corporate headquarters in downtown Chicago office. The qualified candidate will provide support to wide array of messaging systems here at ComPsych. The Enterprise Messaging Systems Administrator will implement, maintain, and troubleshoot existing messaging systems. The responsibilities will include management of the MS Exchange environments, Instant Messaging, and email encryption systems.


  • This position requires strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and good communication skills. 
  • Knowledge of Highly Available Microsoft Exchange Systems, Active Directory, Windows 2008 and 2012 R2 Servers, and familiarity with VMware and vSphere as well as basic Linux administration skills is required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide support to Microsoft Exchange Servers with Database Availability Group as well as DR nodes

  • Design, upgrade, and migrate Microsoft Exchange to newer versions while maintaining High Availability for the messaging system

  • Maintain, upgrade, and provide support to Identity Based Encryption email systems, e.g. Voltage or Zix

  • Deploy, maintain, and provide support to Mobile Device Management, Anti-Spam, and other messaging related systems, such as Mail Express server, Global Scape Electronic File Transfer system, Instant Messaging, SMTP relays, and TLS

  • Implement, configure, and support email load balancers, e.g. Kemp; Microsoft ActiveSync and Outlook Web Access

  • Support users and the Helpdesk with issues related to connectivity to the messaging systems, that includes support for Outlook, message tracking, and message relays

  • Manage mailbox quotas and storage requirements for messaging systems

  • Design and support custom messaging systems based on applications and/or systems requirements

  • Configure, add, and maintain Database Group Availability

  • Troubleshoot, configure, and manage Windows Operating Systems including Windows Clusters in both a physical and virtual environments hosting messaging platforms

  • Analyze system performance, and ability to identify potential bottlenecks

  • Maintain Office 365 Directory Synchronization tool and Advanced Threat Protection

  • Provide administrative support for other systems as required by the Tier-2 and 3 Infrastructure team

  • Develop and maintain preventative maintenance programs, operational redundancy, and disaster recovery plans

  • Assists with installation of service packs and patches on all messaging systems

  • Administer Active Directory accounts; this will include adding/deleting users, creating security groups and distribution lists

  • Recommends and implements appropriate level solutions and enhancements to ensure improvements in system reliability and performance

  • Develops and maintains a library of system supporting processes and procedures

  • Interacts with management and employees on all levels to answer questions, problems and requests regarding system issues

  • Meet deadlines and produce quality deliverables on-time while adhering to standardized workflows and processes

  • Participate in the on-call schedule to provide emergency support via pager

  • Other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of hands-on experience working in MS Exchange and Active Directory environments

  • Extensive hands-on experience with MS Exchange 2010 with DAG

  • Experience with MS Exchange 2016 a plus

  • Certification in MS Exchange administration a plus

  • Strong knowledge of MS Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 2012 servers

  • Experience with MS Windows 2016 is a plus

  • 3 years of hands-on VMware experience including vCenter

  • Strong knowledge of DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP skills

  • Strong knowledge of Sender Policy Framework records

  • Basic knowledge of Linux administration

  • Will be required to be accessible by pager 24x7 in case of emergency

  • Experience working with mid to large scale servers/network environments required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be able to work on-site in the Chicago Office
