Senior Firmware Engineer - Video Industry Leader

Oakland, CA (you can work from home 2x/week)

The company is an industry leader and is profitable and stable. The company’s state of the art video products are used in a variety of industries.

The company will pay up to $200k.

Job Responsibilities:

- There are 2 openings. Depending on the position, you could be spending anywhere from 50-70% of your time programming in C, 10-50% in Java, the rest C++.

- Working with a team of about 10 Firmware Engineers.

- Analyzing system requirements and developing complex applications and drivers for custom hardware.

- Collaboratively determining requirements and possible product features.

- Writing design specification documents.

- Designing reliable and maintainable firmware and diagnostic tools.

- Evaluating third party software and hardware.

- Prioritizing, scheduling, tracking, and coordinating the development, verification and release of your code.

- Verifying software functionality both in your own test environment as well as in conjunction with the rest of the project team and system test engineers.

- Reviewing software, firmware and hardware designs and implementation.

- Performing software configuration management, build and release firmware.

- Performing unit, integration, and system testing. Investigating and resolving bugs.

- Other duties and projects as assigned by manager.


- Strong at programming in C.

- Experience with video processing and codecs.

- Experience developing drivers for IO cards in multiple environments (Linux, PetaLinux, Windows, Android).

- Multiple operating system platform development and deployment (Linux, Windows, Android).

- Experience with board bring-up, troubleshooting, validation and diagnostics.

- Experience interfacing with and controlling FPGA logic and ASICs.

- Solid planning, organizational, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

- At least 7 years of embedded application software development experience.

- Proven experience writing embedded hardware drivers and middleware for shipping product.

- Experience with networking.

- Understanding of multithreading.

Nice to have:

- Java, C++, Assembly.

- 12+ years of software embedded application software development experience.
