How do you know if you are right for this job?
You thrive in a fast paced environment focused on delivering production code at a regular cadence using Agile techniques, tools and methodologies.
You have built or want to build automation tools and components to aide in installation and provisioning of cloud-based applications in AWS, Azure, or similar cloud providers.
You have the knowledge to mentor junior and intermediate level Hadoop administrators/developers.
You have the ability to tackle problems both at the large scale (think hundred-node clusters) and the small scale (think individual atomic locks).
You have a strong desire to continually learn new technologies, tools, and methodologies, including those out of your comfort zone.
Experience and skills you will need
Expertise in at least one commercial distribution of Hadoop, preferably HortonWorks.
Maintain, support, and upgrade Hadoop clusters.
Experience in installation/configuration Hadoop clusters from scratch.
Experience with monitoring cluster health and perform performance tuning.
In depth understanding of Hadoop ecosystem like HDFS, YARN, MapReduce, Hive, Spark, SOLR, Kafka, Storm, etc.
Experience using at least one scripting language such as Ruby, Python, Bash, or similar.
Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical capabilities.
Understanding of High Availability, Disaster Recovery and Storage technologies like Data replication
Strong Linux/Unix and Networking experience
BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Experience and skills we hope to see
Experience in upgrading Hadoop clusters using rolling upgrade/express upgrade methods.
Experience with cluster security including Kerberos.
Strong understanding of one or more major RDBMS technologies like Oracle and PostgreSQL
Familiarity working with Amazon AWS or similar cloud providers.
