Job Description


The Sr Information Security Engineer will provide guidance and assistance with regards to IT and enterprise (WellMed and USMD) security. This will be done by sitting on various enterprise-wide project teams, such as acquisitions, compliance, infrastructure and applications and working with business owners to understand their data needs as well as their information-sharing patterns, etc. This position will be expected to be a subject matter expert in keeping data safe and secure in storage and in transition. S/he will deliver documents, troubleshoot data (including exchanges), and lead the teams in a security-driven direction. This position is responsible for providing expertise to Sr. Leadership when discussing strategic security initiatives and will also serve as a resource to various other IT teams.Primary Responsibilities: Partners with business owners and leaders to manage enterprise-wide system and asset security aspects of all operations in which data is exchanged across media or stored electronicallyProactively collaborates with the IT department and related business units to document risks associated with approved exceptions, define mitigation controls and establish long-term remediation strategiesCollaborates with Optum Technology, Optum Information Risk Management and Optum Data Management areas (among others) surrounding security protocol development, planning, and implementation Provides guidance and assistance to Optum infrastructure teams with regard to security best practices and enterprise guidelines, strategies, and initiatives with the goal of controlling potential risk to systems and data and creating a cohesive environmentAnalyzes business requirements and ensures that solutions meet established security policies and controls. Designs and documents IT security plans/architecture for the enterprise as well as the larger Optum IRM/EIS and related teamsServes as key leader and subject matter expert on OptumCare leading-edge projects that are particularly vulnerable to security risk during development and operationsDefines/implements exceptions to established security policies and controls in order to meet business requirements, as appropriateFacilitates the design/deployment reviews with department leads and executive leadership to ensure adherence to organizational policiesPartners with business owners, legal and compliance, and the broader Optum IRM Team to define/enhance IT solutions in order to meet both business needs and security requirementsReviews on an ongoing schedule existing protocols alongside business requirements and business use cases. Provides feedback to applicable technology teams on recommended process improvement and policy changes related to IT security infrastructure and architectureDemonstrates and maintains knowledge of applicable IT industry security standards, data security/protection principles, encryption techniques and standards, hardware and software controls, and emerging security issuesWorks with technical teams to diagnose and troubleshoot Tier 3 issues with security considerations: Cisco, Juniper and Palo Alto firewalls; proxy servers; IPS/IDS; and other security hardware and software. Demonstrates understanding of discovery technologies to identify system vulnerabilities (e.g., scanning tools)Performs all other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree (4+ additional years of comparable work experience beyond the required years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a bachelor's degree) 4+ years of experience Access Control Systems, IDS/IPS, firewalls, SIEM and/or Event Correlation/Reporting security systems4+ years of experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Operating Systems Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree Microsoft Certification(s) Cisco CCIE Security Certification (ISC)2 CISSP Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE) Security+, GSEC, CEH Exceptional planning and project implementation skills to achieve high visible solutions Exceptional communication skills Exceptional analytical and problem solving abilities Ability to prioritize and balance workload in a high-demand environment Physical & Mental Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Ability to push or pull heavy objects using up to 50 pounds of force Ability to sit for extended periods of time Ability to stand for extended periods of time Ability to use fine motor skills to operate office equipment and/or machineryAbility to properly drive and operate a company vehicle Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing Ability to use logical reasoning for simple and complex problem solvingCareers with WellMed.
