We are currently searching for a Senior Linux Engineer to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a permanent, full-time position with MSC and it is on-site in Bethesda, Maryland.
Duties and Responsibilities:
*Provide systems engineering and architecture support to ongoing infrastructure operations and projects to maintain highly efficient networks of shared computing resources and data.
*Manage CentOS and RHEL Linux systems via central management tools.
*Develop and maintain custom scripts and stored procedures to automate repetitive tasks and improve consistency in operations and maintenance activities.
*Deploy approved release packages and break-fix solutions in accordance with all enterprise architecture and configuration, change, and release management policies and procedures.
*Administer MySQL and PostgreSQL databases as required: Provision, delete, backup, troubleshoot, provide performance tuning, etc.
*Monitor infrastructure, systems operations, and critical application services 24/7; provide information and statistics relevant to system limits on capacity, data storage, system utilization, etc.; respond to critical outages and restore services within agreed upon service levels.
*Maintain hardware and software across all environments (physical, virtual, cloud) and all platforms (Windows, Linux, and Mac).
*Review and assess network and systems performance; troubleshoot and resolve issues as required, and propose and implement changes aimed at continuous improvement.
*Assist in the support of the network infrastructure and IP management for local area networks, switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, and other network devices.
*Manage directories such as Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), Open Directory, Kerberos and Active Directory (AD); respond to changes within service level agreements.
*Support data center operations and planning, including space and rack space management; enterprise-wide capacity planning; and ongoing power, wiring, and air conditioning maintenance.
*Participate in on-call rotation for off-hours support of infrastructure, systems operations, and critical applications services
*Break down, set up, and transport IT equipment during moves within and between government-owned or leased data centers and offices for relocation and/or surplus activities.
*Bachelor*s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related business, scientific, or technical discipline
*Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or equivalent certification
*8+ years of experience supporting Linux systems * including CentOS and RHEL operating systems * in a fast-paced, complex 24/7 enterprise environment
*Extensive knowledge and experience in developing scripts using Bash, Korn, Perl, Python, Ruby, PHP, Java, and/or Powershell
*Experience implementing continuous integration/continuous delivery environments, infrastructure as code, microservices, containers, and related tools and technologies
*Demonstrated success in automating server builds, standardizing images, and managing Linux systems via central management tools such as Satellite, Spacewalk, Puppet, Chef, etc.
*Passion and skill for quickly learning new tools and approaches
*Experience deploying, troubleshooting, and maintaining applications with MySQL and PostgreSQL databases
*Experience with hardware and software for networking; distributed computing; virtualization; large-scale, high-performance storage systems; databases; and cloud computing (Amazon Web Services, Google, Microsoft Azure)
*Experience with enterprise technologies such as A10, Aspera, CommVault, Docker, Electric Cloud, Hyper-V, Isilon, Rocket, SailPoint, SAP HANA, Serena, SolarWinds, Splunk, Talend, TechFinder, and VMware.
*Experience managing work tasks via tools such as JIRA and ServiceNow
*Ability to adapt to rapidly changing requirements with a flexible and creative engineering-focused approach to brainstorming, troubleshooting, and problem solving
*Ability to effectively and confidently communicate * in writing and presentations * complex topics and procedures with team members and all levels of customer stakeholders
*Must meet all requirements for obtaining and maintaining a Public Trust Clearance
*Experience with database administration tasks in MySQL and PostgreSQL to include query writing, stored procedures, backups, and performance tuning
*Experience working in a DevOps/Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery environment to include application code reviews, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
*ITIL v3 Foundation or higher level certification
