Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer
We are looking for a Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer to own the existing Unix/Linux infrastructure but also have the determination and experience to set the standards in this area in the coming months and years.
This individual will be an integral subject-matter expert (SME) on the IT Infrastructure Team and will be responsible for the setup, configuration, administration, tuning, monitoring, troubleshooting, and backups of our corporate Unix/Linux infrastructure. We are in the process of transitioning from a Unix compute infrastructure to a virtualized Linux one; hence, Solaris administration experience is vital to the success of this position during this transition period. The initial workload will be focused on 60% Unix/Linux and 40% Storage/Backup administration. Depending on the business priorities and the skillset of the candidate, the percentage may shift.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Architect, implement, and manage all things pertaining to Unix/Linux-based infrastructure
Manage and administer the compute and storage infrastructure (Cisco UCS, VMware, Data Domain, EMC Unity, and Sun/Oracle Server)
Manage and administer the corporate backup system, including the Veritas Netbackup system
Work closely with database, application and software engineers to gather requirements to incorporate them into the design and implementation of systems.
Partner and coordinate with VARs and outsourcing vendors to design, implement, and support current and new infrastructure systems and applications.
Manage contracts, renewals, and purchasing of hardware and software as necessary.
Document infrastructure and work instructions for systems and applications
Produce metrics (KPI) regularly on the health of the infrastructure.
Follow industry and best practices and procedures in a SOX and an FDA regulated environment.
Mentor and cross train team members.
Work off hours and weekends as required
Travel to datacenter located in Sunnyvale, CA as required.
24/7/365 on-call availability for emergency escalations.
BS/BA degree in related discipline and 7 years of related experience; or,
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Red Hat RHCSA and RHCE certifications
7+ years of experience in Unix and Linux systems administration in a production environment.
Technical lead experience is preferred.
Experience working in a SOX and FDA regulated environment is a plus
7+ years of experience administering Sun/Oracle hardware and software
7+ years of experience with Linux (Redhat/CentOS 6 and 7, SUSE 10/11/12)
4+ years of experience supporting Oracle DBAs and their databases (10g, 11g, 12c)
4+ years of experience with administering VMware vSphere 5/6
Experience with administering enterprise storage (SAN and NAS)
Experience with administering networking equipment (routers, switches, firewalls, VPN controllers, wireless controllers, and security solutions)
Experience with logging analysis products such as Splunk or Solarwinds LEM
Experience with implementing and managing monitoring systems
Experience managing enterprise backup system such Veritas Netbackup and EMC Networker
Experience in pharmaceutical industry with knowledge of GxP and SOX compliance preferred.
Ability to write and modify scripts.
Strong ability to interface with customers and technical staff. Strong customer-facing skills (oral, written and verbal skills); ability to define and articulate complex process flows.
Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and completes them under time constraints.
Ability to work with minimal guidance, to adapt to frequent priority changes, and response to ad-hoc requests
