Overview:




CSRA is seeking Senior Network Operations Team Lead to serve as primary escalation for network operational issues for our IT infrastructure program at the National Cancer Institute (NIH / NCI). This program is composed of about 200 employees providing full IT infrastructure support to the NCI. In this role, you will oversee the Network Operations team of 4 people supporting approximately 150 switches, 15000 active endpoints on the network, 8000 users, and a multiple OS environment - Mac, Windows and Linux. Position is for full time employment with CSRA and will be based at the NCI Shady Grove office with onsite support at the NIH main campus in Bethesda as needed. Position allows a flexible schedule around core business hours, Monday - Friday; and 1 day a week telework once established and with manager approval.

Responsibilities:




• Follow standard operating procedures for the Network Operations Team, including the use of ticketing systems and documentation. Lead the rest of the team in the same behavior. Provide proactive feedback for continuous improvement of standard operating procedures.

• Support network upgrade projects or initiatives.

• Support network infrastructure and IP address management—including DHCP—for local area networks.

• Replace failed components as needed.

• Support end-user connectivity needs.

• Support the installation, maintenance, operation, and security of the NCI LAN infrastructure and network devices.

• Manage access to NCI network segments and resources in compliance with HHS/NIH network segmentation and network access policies.

• Update hardware, operating systems, and software to provide needed functionality and security.

• Manage and maintain Enterasys Network Access Control (NAC) in coordination with Security, Network Engineering, and Desktop Support teams.

• Support the planning and execution of datacenter migration efforts, involving multiple datacenters, mission-critical resources and a diverse group of stakeholders.

• Support the planning, testing, and deployment of segmented networks to replace existing flat networks.

• Maintain network and server system configurations, including network design, fault tolerance, disaster recovery, troubleshooting, and monitoring.

• Support the Security Team in their responsibility to maintain firewalls and rules sets.

• Provide network support for storage area network engineering and High Performance Computing.

• Monitor systems and provide information and statistics relevant to system capacity limits on switches, NAC appliances, F5 load balancers, and other managed systems.

• Manage and maintain monitoring tools such as Cacti—used to graph important metrics

• Be a knowledgeable, approachable resource and point of escalation for junior Network Operations Team members, as well as for member of other infrastructure teams, security and desktop support teams.

• Participate in regular on-call rotation, and assist in responding to emergencies and outages as necessary

• Participate in off-hours maintenance activities

• As operations team lead, organize and manage schedules, assignments, meetings, and logistics for the Network Operations team

• Act as liason between operational staff and operational management, as well as network engineering

• Serve as a primary escalation point for operational issues, and manage escalations to network engineering

Qualifications:




Required skills and experience:
  • Bachelors and 10+ years of IT knowledge and demonstrated hands-on experience and/or training in network engineering and administration (equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Experience in a network operations (NOC) environment – preferably in a lead role
  • Experience installing and supporting network devices – preferably Enterasys (Extreme Networks).
  • Experience with network sniffing/monitoring tools, such as Wireshark/tcpdump, Cacti, NetSight Suite, etc.
  • Experience with DHCP (preferably Microsoft Server 2012 and/or Infoblox) and DNS (preferably Microsoft DDNS and/or BIND)
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals and ability to troubleshoot at the highest level; including high-pressure situations
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification or equivalent, or ability to obtain in 6 months to 1 year. Higher certifications, such as CCNP or CCIE, are desirable.
Competencies:
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and strong interpersonal skills to effectively relate to agency and customer needs.
Desired skills and experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Social Science
  • Experience with ServiceNow
  • Experience with multiple OS environment is strongly preferred - including Windows, Linux, and/or Mac operating systems
  • Experience with the following technologies is preferred

    Extreme Networks (Enterasys) S, N, K, and C Series switches

    • Extreme Networks (Enterasys) NAC

    • Extreme Networks (Enterasys) NetSight Suite

    • F5 GTM and LTM

    • Cacti RRDTool

    • Wireshark/tcpdump or equivalent

    • DHCP: Microsoft Server 2012 and/or Infoblox

    • DNS: Microsoft DDNS and/or BIND

    • iTRACS Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM)
  • Additional certifications from the following vendors are desirable (Extreme Networks, CiscoF5, ITIL)
