Job Summary

Physical Sciences Laboratories (PSL) has more than 100 specialized laboratories used to test, analyze, and troubleshoot virtually every aspect of rocket and satellite system design, development, construction, deployment, and operation. The diverse expertise of the laboratories' technical staff allows PSL to stay abreast of new technological developments and program support issues associated with rapidly evolving space systems.

Aerospace is seeking a motivated, experienced, and high-energy leader to build, develop and integrate teams associated with Advanced Manufacturing research and development. This lead position will work with multiple customers and across engineering and science divisions to integrate research activities, lead multi-disciplinary teams, and be responsible for overall strategic execution of Advanced Manufacturing, Rapid prototyping (additive manufacturing) initiatives. As the visionary leader, you will successfully leverage the convergence of many disciplines including data science, sensors, material science, and new manufacturing techniques/design to make a big impact in the space manufacturing community. This is a full-time position based in El Segundo, CA.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Building collaboration and engaging across industry, government, and academia to determine state of the art, customer needs, and opportunities for new R&D efforts
  • Connecting internal science and engineering efforts across focus areas in manufacturing, data science (AI and machine learning), digital engineering, embedded sensors, material science, tool development, and advanced design practices/processes toward advanced manufacturing innovations
  • Developing and executing corporate strategies for advanced manufacturing engagement across the space community
  • Development of new funding opportunities through external proposal development and industry/academia partnership
  • Facilitating technology transition of R&D products and processes in advanced manufacturing
  • Develop and execute corporate strategies for advanced manufacturing engagement across the space community
  • Building multi-disciplinary teams with a goal of addressing key technology fusion and manufacturing research needs for different commercial sectors , such as tool development and end product users and volume needs
  • Collaborate as an advance manufacturing thought leader across the Aerospace engineering matrix, program offices, and prototyping organizations
  • Expanding Aerospace capabilities in advanced manufacturing as both principal investigator and team leader to include new commercial, customer, and academic collaborations with joint research programs and strategies

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:
  • Advanced degree in a STEM field or equivalent
  • Typically (10) years of direct experience in advanced manufacturing technologies
  • Leadership skills to include team building, personnel development, technical influence, budget and resource planning, and mentoring
  • Ability to lead and work outside your personal expertise to cultivate new ideas across Aerospace and execute highly collaborative strategies that include multiple organizations
  • Willingness to occasionally travel domestically and to work off-business hours to support customer needs, approximately one trip per month
  • Ability to find new research intersections across disciplines and build new R&D teams bridging these fields
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
