Senior Systems Engineer  

Duties and Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities will be to lead systems engineering efforts on assigned projects associated with development of services and capabilities for the US Government for satellite constellation.  This will involve both technical and programmatic teamwork with customers, client personnel and contractors.  Duties will include:

  • Working with the Customer to understand program needs and interpret the needs into the program scope, plan, and execution
  • Technical feasibility analysis and trade studies
  • Develop top-level system requirements and allocate to subsystems
  • System integration and test planning
  • Support project management and program documentation
  • Implementation tracking and non-conformance resolution 
  • Briefing summary of project results, issues tracking and reporting to management

  Experience / Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in an engineering discipline required. 
  • Twelve or more years of relevant experience in aerospace industry specifically associated with the development and operation of complex communications satellite systems.
  • Desired experience with the following;
    • RF system engineering principles in analysis and derivation of subsystem requirements and subsequent flow down for “satellite to ground” Link Budgets, sensitivity analysis, NF (Noise Figure), C/No (Carrier to Noise), SNR (Signal to Noise), and understanding of RF impairments, etc…
    • How protocols effect QoS, MOS, processor utilization and routing delays within a communication system architecture.
    • Project engineering / project management in satellite development.
  • A security clearance is not required, but preferred

  Job Requirements: Participate in the full lifecycle of these communication services.  This would include the end user equipment (and/or customer-built devices), the customer/mission requirements and needs, ability to direct development activities (to include oversight of subcontractors) when it comes to design elements and engineering. Responsible for systems engineering planning, scheduling, and execution to include requirements definition, allocation, system design, analyses and trade studies, hardware/software design oversight, system I&T and system verification.

  • Demonstrated ability to solve technical problems and to prioritize and organize complex workflow involving multiple inter-related parallel efforts.
  • In-depth knowledge of systems engineering methodologies and processes to include requirements definition, requirement allocation, system analyses, system trades, system verification, and anomaly resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish customer and supplier relationships and to understand and resolve technical issues.
  • Position requires a hands-on self-starter, capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent oral and written reporting and communication/briefing skills essential.
  • Proficiency with standard office/engineering tools required (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
