Overview:




CSRA is seeking a Senior Storage Administrator to join our IT infrastructure program supporting the National Cancer Institute (NCI) 7000+ users and 25PB of data. As part of NCI's IT operations team, you will provide operational support for NCI's Storage/Backup infrastructure including management of the central infrastructure and customer support. The scope includes the full range of network, server, SAN, backup, support, and management tasks required to implement and support Enterprise Storage/Backup systems in multiple buildings maintaining EMC Isilon, NetApp cDOT, HP EVA as well as Commvault based infrastructure.

Responsibilities:




- Develops standard operating procedures and work instructions and ensure staff comply

- Oversees the installation of new storage/data protection hardware and software according to standard operating procedures

- Oversees the updates to hardware, operating systems, and software as needed to provide required functionality and security

- Oversees operational management and patch management

- Ensures systems are monitored and statistics relevant to capacity, performance, utilization, etc. are provided to federal staff and management

- Identifies areas of improvement in process, people or technology and presents implementation plan to management

- Organizes scheduled maintenance activities on all components of relevant systems (many activities occur after normal business hours)

- Develops and documents system disaster recovery tests, in accordance with customer policy, on a quarterly basis to ensure data integrity and availability

- Keeps abreast of current developments in storage/data protection technology to assist federal staff in assessing the future direction

- Oversees the provisioning and support of storage for the tiers of applications created by federal staff and affiliates

- Provides technical guidance and support to server, application hosting and database engineers and administrators.

- Coordinates daily with federal staff on issues, tasks and projects

- Provides installation support (working with hardware vendors) for storage and backup equipment procured by NCI.

- Administers storage within the SAN, NAS, and DAS areas, working with NCI federal staff to ensure that appropriate storage is available for the needs of their customers.

- Maintains ad-hoc storage data infrastructure within scientific laboratories.

- Maintains storage data security and review data permission with primary data owners.

- Performs storage data backups and archival per NCI policies/standards.

- Analyzes the health and scalability of storage data; and analyzes and recommend data security standards to ensure confidentiality, availability, and integrity.

- Audits current data security restrictions such as access to network resources or data and recommend corrective action plans, as necessary; audits storage data for data files moves, data file creates, data file deletions, and data file modifications; audits data backups based on industry best practices on an on-going regular basis to ensure data

- Manages the storage environment to include incident, change, configuration, problem, quality and request management following an ITIL model in a hosting environment

- Interacts with customers and evaluates vendor products related to storage and backup/recovery.

- Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery.

- Administers and monitors storage and backup/restore policies & standards

- Implements testing strategies and documents results.

- Researches and recommends upgrades or enhancements for the IT/system infrastructure, as needed.

- Maintains awareness of technology evolution and proactively recommends further investigation where warranted.

Qualifications:




Required:

- Bachelors degree and 9+ years related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience / degree can be waived in lieu of additional experience)

- Hands on operational experience managing, implementing, and maintaining storage environments

- Experience with both NAS and Fiber Channel SAN

- Experience with NFS and CIFS protcols

- Experience with Brocade, Cisco MDS, or other switches

- Experience with Linux (RedHat &/or CentOS)


Desired:

- Experience with VMware is strongly preferred

- Experience managing large scale storage environments with multiple petabytes of storage across the enterprise.

- 3+ years of experience managing a multiple vendor storage environment, including NetApp, EMC, HP and / or DDN.

- Experience implementing and maintaining a mulit-tiered storage environment including SAN, NAS, and DAS platforms

- Experience managing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise-level backup envrionments, preferably with Commvault Simpana

- Experience in SAN Fabric maintenance, including array and fiber switch administration

- Experience providing systems usage statistics for use in overall capacity planning initiatives.

- Experience with creation and maintenance of documentation to identify storage and backup hardware, software configuration, and connectivity.

- Experience with identification and management of storage and backup service improvements to increase customer satisfaction.

- Strong organizational skills and strong interpersonal skills to effectively relate to agency and customer needs.


Certifications:

One or more of the following certifications desired:

• CompTIA Storage+ Powered by SNIA

• SNIA Certified Storage Engineer (SCSE) or Architect (SCSA)

• Commvault Certified Specialist or Professional

• Isilon Certified Support Professional (ICSP) or Integration Engineer (ICIE)

• Brocade Certified Fabric Administrator (BCFA) or Professional (BCFP)
