The Senior Systems Engineer s role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house technologies supporting the firm s core organizational functions. This is achieved by designing, monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked hardware, software, and associated operating systems. The Senior Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve IT related issues. This individual will also mentor and provide guidance to additional IT staff.
Strategic and Planning
Collaborate with IS Operations staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
Work with team members to define system requirements and goals, and identify and resolve business systems issues.
Keep abreast of technology, security vulnerabilities, and trends in all areas of Microsoft server-based networking.
Provide leadership and assistance for the development of Projects and Project POC s
Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
Perform server and system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration and procedures.
Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.
Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, for modified and new systems (Change Control).
Monitor critical infrastructure and system performance.
Provide technical support, guidance, and mentoring to other System Engineers and departments.
Participate in a week-long after-hours support escalation coverage rotation.
The Senior Systems Engineer reports to the IS Operations Infrastructure Manager. This person will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment introducing leading-edge technologies to maintain and grow a global infrastructure based on Microsoft and Intel technologies. This position is located in the Los Angeles downtown facility of Gibson Dunn and will have close interactions with other IS departments, such as Business Intelligence, Support Center, and Local IS Support Teams.
Troubleshooting and Communication
Utilize troubleshooting skills to diagnose the cause, formulate and apply prompt fixes, execute long-term resolutions, and quickly document resolutions.
Lead the coordination of system troubleshooting activities for our firm as it relates to the Microsoft servers, Active Directory infrastructure, and IS security policies. Work with the
Support Center and IS departments to identify and lead the correction of issues through configuration or procedural changes. Provide accurate root-cause analysis, identify solutions, and provide accurate impact analysis.
Develop and document processes and procedures to eliminate the number of reoccurring system issues.
Demonstrate commitment to excellence in customer support and have the ability to secure customer cooperation under pressure conditions.

Coordinate activities within the team so that all resources are deployed in the most effective manner to meet the needs of internal and external clients.

Knowledge and Experience
In-depth knowledge of MS Microsoft Systems an MSCE certification is preferred.
Must be highly process-oriented with a strong background in application and system level troubleshooting
The ability to reduce overwhelming amounts of information into a few salient issues to focus on what is essential
Must be highly driven with the ability to rapidly prioritize critical tasks
Must be a self-starter with the initiative to follow through on programs/projects and work with all levels of users, as well as have the ability to coordinate efforts both inside and outside of the IS group
Project Management skill is highly desired
Must place great value on continuous learning and building knowledge of emerging IS technologies
Effective oral and written communication skills are essential
Although limited, the candidate must have the ability to travel
Flexibility relative to scheduling is required.
Deep knowledge and hands-on experience with Active Directory, its principals, best practices, and implementation
Hands-on experience with DHCP, DNS, network printers, and other network services
Experience in implementing and supporting VMware ESX 6.x
Working knowledge of Citrix XenApp infrastructure
Working knowledge of LANs, VLANs, firewall, switches, routers, troubleshooting, and full knowledge of TCP/IP, SMTP, SFTP, SSH, HTTP, SSL protocols
Experience with enterprise level anti-virus, anti-malware applications (implementation/support)
Solid understanding of Microsoft Windows 10 and Office 2016
Working knowledge of iPhones, Apple and Android PDAs
Experience with HP, and Cisco, hardware
Strong working knowledge of storage solutions with an emphasis in NetApp technologies and CDOT 9.x
Hands-on experience with SNMP Management Tools, ideally with Solarwinds
Network faxing solutions such as RightFax
Knowledge in the following areas a plus:
Symantec Security and Backup Solutions
RSA Secure ID
A Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline is highly preferred.

Networking principles, design, and configuration of Microsoft servers (Windows 2008 and later)
Complete knowledge of TCP/IP and SNMP
Well versed in PowerShell Scripting
Excellent understanding of storage array technologies and recovery/business continuance practices
HP servers, and Cisco UCS hands-on experience
SAN/NAS technology specifically NetApp
Well versed in other solutions such as Equitrac and eCopy
Understanding of AT&T MPLS and AVTS WAN technologies
CITRIX XenApp Server, VPNs, WANs, and VLAN technologies
RSA SecurID technologies
