Customers discover Amazon Video content via the home page customers see when they log on into Amazon Video. However our catalog contains orders of magnitude more videos than can be displayed on a single page and customers may have different interest from another one, or different interest at one time than at another. For example, a customer might like to watch movies on Friday nights but a TV show on weeknight and short videos on her smart phone during evenings when traveling home from work.
Our mission is to eliminate the selection problem and reduce customers' work in discovering videos by placing at the top of the page the right content they would like to watch at that time on that device. We build a personalized home page experience tailored to individual customer tastes by learning through hundreds of different recommendation strategies, anonymized historical customer streaming behavior and understanding customer-device-time of day relationships.

A day in the life
On a day-to-day basis, you will be part of a small, close-knit team of engineers that are agile, data driven, and highly collaborative. You will help design, develop ML models to provide personalized recommendations to Prime Video customers.
About the team
Persona team is part of the Whole Page Optimization (WPO) team in Prime Video Personalization. Persona team's mission is to understand our customers' preferences, interests, motivations and background and apply them to better personalize their Prime Video experience. Our long-term vision is to make customers feel that we deeply understand who they are, what they like, when, and why. These insights will be used to group, filter and rank recommendations. A vital part of our program will be to develop a platform with which other Prime Video teams can interact to generate and improve the recommendations. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 1+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
- 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
- Experience with Machine Learning
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- 2+ years programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
- Product development experience in consumer-focused companies
- Experience developing web services, or other large scale distributed systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
- A track record of innovating in Machine Learning algorithms and applications.
- Experience influencing software engineers best practices within your team
- Hands-on expertise in many disparate technologies, typically ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end systems and all points in between
